The Role
GM is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation. General Motors has needs for qualified Experimental Painter Journeypersons.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare body for paint process by removing necessary body panel and emblems
- Repair defects/imperfections in panels/bodies with body filler and glazing putty
Mask areas for paint with proper tape/paper
- Application of primer-surface coatings
- Proper use of DA sanders, block sanders, and other body preparation tools
- Follow metal treatment procedures
- Repair paint damaged surfaces
Follow proper standards in paint application of body base coat/clear coat
- Adhere to final finesse polish procedures
- Work to body specification standards
- Participate in design/engineering reviews
- Inspect vehicle in light booth throughout process to guarantee show quality finish
Perform paint mixing applications to proper standards
- Work with numerous substrates including fiberglass, 3D printed parts, carbon fiber and polyethene parts

- i-CAR certifications
EPA Area Source Rule Trained
Interested individuals must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Interested individuals must have six (6) years of documented experience in auto body preparation and painting
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements which includecomprehensive assessments, hair drug testing, and a background check
- At least 18 years of age
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Must be willing to work flexible shift hours and day, afternoon, or night shifts as well as overtime hours daily, weekend and holidays on those shifts with little notice
