POSITION: Cook

SALARY: $15.74 per hour

REPORTS TO: Meal Site Supervisor/ Head Cook

LOCATION: AAOA - Omak, Washington

BASIC FUNCTIONS: Assists the head cook with the planning, preparing and serving of nutritionally balanced, cost-effective meals for approximately 50 meals per day to be served in a congregate setting and delivered to clients at their homes. Available to assist with menu plans, food purchases, maintaining sanitary conditions at the meal site. Must have a good understanding of senior citizens, have patience, establish and sustain working relationship with clients, staff and other program/agency staff and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. Three (3) to six (6) month work related experience.
  • Requires a valid state License and must be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance.
  • Requires a food handlers permit, first aid, and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Requires a TB Test as a condition of employment with a negative result or obtain one within 15 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Requires the ability to work independently and follow line of authority.
  • Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective/cooperative working relationships with others (peers, clientele,public.)
  • Requires the ability to read, understand and follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Requires the ability to be able to prepare, cook and serve a variety of foods in quantity amounts.
  • Requires the ability to work from written menus/recipes and to adapt standard recipes to preparing dishes for a varying number of people.
  • Requires the ability to prepare meals for special diets.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a physical fitness clearance by medical doctor's examination and verify that applicant can lift 25 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to operate and maintain standard cooking appliances/equipment.
  • Requires the ability to have food handlers permit and be able to obtain a First Aid and CPR card within 90 days of employment.
  • Requires the ability to assist with routine cleaning and insuring sanitary conditions of the senior meal center kitchen and eating area, including washing, cleaning, and disinfecting of dining tables, kitchen appliances, and bathrooms.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.


TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.


If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
