Job Title: Wildlife Transporter and Facilities Crew Member
Division: Animal Care/Marine Mammal
Reports To: Hospital Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part Time
Prepared Date: September 2022
Summary: This is a year-round, hourly, part time position (28 hrs/week) whose primary responsibility is to ensure that patients are transported to and from California Wildlife Center in a timely manner, assist in general facilities maintenance, and general errand runs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Perform general maintenance of the clinic facilities and outside enclosures as directed by the Hospital Manager– light construction (sawing, drilling, and stapling), demolition, small repairs, appliance upkeep (cleaning filters and vents).
- Transport sea lions, northern elephant seals, harbor seals, marine birds, or any other marine animal that needs to be transferred to the Marine Mammal Care Center or International Bird Rescue in San Pedro. The usual drive time is 4 hours round trip.
- Pick up feed and or supplies from various vendors when needed. Usual drive time 1 – 4 hours.
- Occasional assistance with marine mammal rescue (1-2 per month)
- Transport animals to California Wildlife Center from designated animal shelters including but not limited to Santa Monica, West Los Angeles, East Valley (Van Nuys) and West Valley (Northridge). Usual drive time is 1 - 2 hours round trip.
- Performing other duties designated by your supervisor such as accepting animals from the public, database entry, and assisting with cleaning duties inside and outside of the clinic.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for occasional supervision of 1-2 volunteers per shift.
Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Experience working with drills, circular saws, and other small hand tools. Prior experience volunteering, interning, or working at a wildlife rehabilitation center, preferred but not required.
Other required qualifications:
- Must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and able to show COVID Vaccination Card as proof of vaccination.
- Upon hire, must pass a background check.
- Comfortable safely driving a 12-person van (Ford Transit VN) and a Ford F-150 extended cab pickup truck.
- Ability to work cooperatively and manage up to 2 volunteers per shift.
- Provide a friendly, tolerant environment for staff, volunteers, interns and externs.
- Endurance for long drives in Los Angeles traffic – up to 6hrs in a single shift.
- Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and calmly under stressful conditions.
Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Follow both verbal and written directions from supervisors who are off site.

Valid CA Driver’s License with a clean record to be insured by our insurance.
