This position is responsible for promoting and marketing activities that will encourage tourism and convention activities in Big Spring and for the management of the Big Spring Visitors Center.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Essential duties and functions may include the following: Develops and implements an annual plan and budget for the Big Spring Convention & Visitors Bureau.Develops and executes marketing plans, programs, and advertising for both short and long term goals.Evaluates market conditions and reactions to advertising programs to ensure the timely adjustment of marketing strategies and plans to meet changing conditions and to actively promote Big Spring as a tourism and convention destination.Complies with all state and local laws and contractual obligations concerning the expenditures of hotel-motel tax funds.Maintains calendar of local events, updates CVB webs site and provides information to the public through various methods including use of social media such as, Facebook, Twitter, etc.Serves as liaison between CVB Committee, City Council, motel management and event coordinators.Oversees operations of the Convention & Visitors Bureau and Visitors Center.Schedules and organizes various community events.Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITIONKnowledge of state laws and city ordinances regarding tourism, events and hotel/motel taxes.Knowledge of relevant city and departmental policies and procedures.Knowledge of the principles and practices of market research, marketing and advertising.Skill in preparing and presenting reports.Skill in organizing and maintaining records.Knowledge of modern office procedures.Skill in operating office equipment.Skill in public & interpersonal relations.Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLSThe Community Services Director assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.GUIDELINESGuidelines include city and departmental policies and procedures and Section 351 of the State of Texas Tax Code, and CVB Committee policies. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but require some interpretation in application. COMPLEXITYThe work consists of understanding and applying applicable tax codes and city ordinances. COMPETENCIESEmployee's performance will be based on Job Knowledge, Teamwork, Customer Service, Flexibility and Work Ethic. SCOPE AND EFFECTThe purpose of this position is to promote and market activities that will encourage tourism and convention activities in Big Spring. PERSONAL CONTACTSContacts are typically with co-workers, other city employees, CVB Committee members, motel owners and management, members of tourism and convention organizations, representatives of marketing/advertising companies, local business owners and the general public. PURPOSE OF CONTACTSContacts are typically to give or exchange information and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects. WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work is typically performed in an office, convention or community center. Some work outdoors with hot, cold or inclement weather is required.
