Dallas District is looking for a Special Jobs Supervisor for the District Heavy Equipment Crew located at the Hutchins Maintenance Office, in Hutchins TX. In this position, you will work with the maintenance section supervisors on projects across the Dallas district. Dallas Heavy Equipment Crew works 10hrs a day, off Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Coordinates and supervises multiple crews engaged in highly specialized transportation maintenance operations within a district to include, but not limited to seal coat operations, bridge repair, roadway reconstruction and/or hot mix overlay. Work requires extensive contact with private entities. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties for Special Jobs Supervisor I and II:
- Coordinates, plans and schedules multiple crews, equipment and material needed for highly specialized maintenance jobs; as required responds to office/work location to assist with emergency situations/conditions.
- Ensures that vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.
- Ensures that projects follow established guidelines.
- Ensures that vehicles are properly equipped and maintained.
- Inspects roads for future projects and current work in progress.
- Monitors materials used and orders new stock.
- Oversees specialized maintenance projects involving roadways, bridges, right-of-way, buildings and grounds.
- Performs some administrative duties such as maintaining records on materials, supplies and personnel.
- Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures.
- Troubleshoots unusual problems and may perform some direct work.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional duties for Special Jobs Supervisor II:
- Performs budget-related review, planning and development activities.
- Plans, assigns, and supervises the work of others.
- Prepares daily or weekly work schedules.
- Operates equipment as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
Special Jobs Supervisor I:
- 8 years highway maintenance, maintenance support experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Must have 1 year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Special Jobs Supervisor II:
- 9 years in highway maintenance, maintenance support (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
- Must have 4 years supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Safety Impact Certificate
- Commercial Driver Certificate
**As required, the Safety Impact and Commercial Driver certification(s) will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire**
Competencies for a Special Jobs Supervisor I and II:
- Methods, procedures, equipment and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
- The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
- Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes.
- Inventory/stock control procedures
- Budgeting methods and procedures
- Administrative support practices and procedures to include writing, editing and report writing techniques, recording meeting notes, record keeping and record management
- Coordinating labor, materials and equipment
- Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems

- Collaborates and cooperates with others and builds effective working relationships with internal and external members to accomplish organizational goals.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour
- Subject to noise
- Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
- Medium work: Lift up to 50lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25lbs
- Climbing: ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc.
- Standing- prolonged periods of time
- Walking-moving on foot to accomplish tasks: long distance/from one work site to another
- Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
- Close Visual Acuity- work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
- Visual Acuity- operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
