Operations Supervisor (Truck Drivers) Job at GFL Environmental
GFL Environmental is looking for a Operations Supervisor to join our growing Operations team out of our Horicon hauling site!
The Operations Supervisor will be responsible for managing all day-to-day collection activities of drivers and laborers while on route for a designated line of business (residential, commercial, roll off, container delivery). Under the direction of management responsibilities will include all aspects of daily leadership, operational productivity, safety, customer service, and business planning. This position will report to the Operations Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support to drivers and laborers
- Oversee employee needs to include coaching, training, evaluating employee performance, and disciplinary action; provide input into hiring, terminations, compensation, and promotion decisions
- Manage daily crew out and end-of-day debrief process, capturing and communicating key service, safety, equipment, and performance issues
- Organize and schedule all necessary resources required to accomplish activities to include monitoring drive time and coordinating daily operational needs
- Follow-up on daily route assignments to ensure customers have been serviced according to Company standards and service agreements
- Visit customer sites to evaluate and resolve safety issues, seek service alternatives where appropriate; ensure set- up errors and missed pick-ups are reported and resolved appropriately
- Partner with management and functional groups to resolve employee relations and labor relation issues
- Assist with investigations and generate reports for all injuries, incidents and accidents
- Conduct and participate in daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings
- Conduct in-cab and field observations
- Ensure drivers comply with physicals, drug and alcohol tests, and training required by regulatory agencies
- Evaluate performance and productivity, identify operational issues and process improvements, and lead strategies to improve overall performance to meet productivity, service, and safety goals
- Maintain open communication with other departments and leadership to ensure fluid and effective operations
- Ensure drivers are carrying all necessary documentation in company trucks required by law (insurance, registration, weight permits, etc.), and that all documentation is current
- Communicate and enforce company policies and procedures and all safety programs
- Enhance organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explore opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum of two (2) years or more Supervisory or Management experience preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year or more experience managing routes and drivers preferred.
- Microsoft Office experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to manage, coach, counsel, discipline, and develop employees
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend reports and associated documents
- The ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 pounds
- The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting or standing
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, OSHA, and other related state and federal regulations
- Knowledge of proper lifting techniques
- Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement
- Ability to be a self-starter capable of working effectively in a high stress, fast paced, team environment
