HOERBIGER Corporation of America (HCA) is seeking a Manufacturing and Automation Engineer for our production facility in Pompano Beach, FL. HCA is an industry leading manufacturer of high-tech precision compressor valves and components used across the energy industry. The position focuses on initiatives relating to the production processes in Metal manufacturing. HCA operates with 100 CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders) and 20+ robots.

The Manufacturing and Automation Engineer’s role is to find improvement potentials in manufacturing and/or automation systems, analyze processes, find possible solutions, drive the decision process and implement improvements with teams of people of different departments and backgrounds. Initiatives the position is working on are focused on the production processes in metal manufacturing, polymer manufacturing and robotic automation. However, at times the role will be asked to step up and support solutions in other areas like logistics, maintenance or facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Manage Robotic Automation systems (Maintain existing systems, Develop/Build new systems in-house, develop specifications for getting systems built by external integrator/vendor)
• Collaborate with the product development group to start production on newly developed products
• Find potential for opportunities by analyzing production patterns and technical requirements
• Plan, justify and execute projects
• Source new tooling, work holding and production equipment (CNC and manual), arrange their repairs and alterations, manage the maintenance cycle of the equipment
• Educate others (train operators on new processes, document process in Work Instructions)
• Participate in and lead LEAN events (5S of work area, 5s & LEAN workshops)

• 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or alternative equivalent experience or combination of education and experience are accepted
• Certifications for manufacturing or project management are a plus; Master’s degree preferable
• 2-year experience in working in an industrial facility
• Experience in managing projects and capital projects
• Experience with 2D drafting for floor layouts and moving machines and creating floor layouts
• 3D drafting experience
• Ability and experience to create fixtures and machine components
• Ability to understand CMM programs, edit programs and/or write new programs in any programming environment (PCDMIS and/or Polyworks is a plus)
• Ability to understand Vision systems and Laser scanners applications, implementations, including editing/writing programs in any environment (Mitutoyo Vision and Laser Design programming environment a plus)
• Ability and experience with reading robotic controller programs
• Ability and experience of robot point teaching in any robotic environment is highly desired. Experience with FANUC would be a plus
• Ability and experience with writing robotic controller programs
• Ability and experience with PLC programming; experience with LabView programming a plus
• Able to analyze data in excel with formulas, Pivot charts
• Ability to analyze data in R and/ or Python is a plus
• Able to analyze data in excel with formulas, Pivot tables
• Experience using ERP software like SAP is a plus
• Experience with of machining processes like grinding, turning, milling or deburring on plastic components
• Ability to determine heat treatment on parts (chilling, stress relief)
