Lead Capital Engineer Job at Ecolab
Nalco’s Garyville capital team is responsible for providing project engineering support for the most challenging projects at one of Nalco’s largest sites. Projects include reactors, transfer equipment, heat exchangers, buildings, tanks, scrubbers, etc. for operations, logistics, maintenance and all site/network stakeholders. This position has been key to delivering on some of the most challenging and important projects over the last several years.
The capital engineer is key to the success of the site. Being one of the largest Nalco, or Ecolab, sites, new products are introduced regularly. New equipment and technologies are implemented to accomplish some of these projects. As a capital engineer, you drive the success of your projects and are responsible to ensure everyone else is engaged. The ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders and ensure alignment on objectives is fundamental to this role. Rarely do two days look alike as you will be managing multiple projects simultaneously while adjusting your focus according to plant priorities and project status.
You will be building and working on cross functional teams with people from both inside and outside the plant. The daily pace of work will change depending on the phases your projects are in; when developing the scope and design things may move at a slower pace, but execution of projects is often fast-paced and requires you to problem solve and think on your feet. To be successful in this role, you must be able to influence without authority.
What You Will Do:
Apply engineering skill to solve complex problems utilizing knowledge of customers, markets, and technologies.
Develop projects with safety aspects addressed. PHA’s, MOC’s, and PSSR’s are completed and recommendations are incorporated into the project
Develop Front End Loading (FEL) of projects with design basis
Develop estimates for projects (works with vendors and contractors to achieve lowest costs while meeting project deliverables) involving procurement to assist with the process
Leads scope reviews with key stakeholders to ensure project meets plant / business needs.
Prepares appropriation requests for capital projects and presentations when projects require Capital Review Board approval
Manage project schedule and budget. Create change notices as needed.
Ensure project documentation is complete and accurate
Be able to articulate to contractors and on-site resources why specific standards with regard to safety, cost management, MOC, and engineering must be followed. Maintain a strong field presence to ensure expectations are met.
Coordinate knowledge exchange with site and corporate subject matter experts to understand potential improvement opportunities
Provide updates to key stakeholders on a timely basis
Ensure project meets deliverables and is closed out appropriately
As needed, work as plant liaison for projects led from Corporate Engineering group
Strong computer skills required and ability to learn SAP transactions
Manage other project engineers meeting the same key responsibilities herein
Ability to respond quickly and thoroughly to management requests for reports or reviews
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field.
5 years related experience
Record of developing other reports or peers
Immigration sponsorship not offered for this role
Some travel flexibility (<10%)

10 years related experience
Previous experience managing people
Previous experience in implementation of capital projects
Strong ability to manage through influence
Action oriented for delivering results
Specific experience with capital projects involving reactors, pump sizing, heat exchanger specification, and tank and pressure vessel specification
Technical writing skills to transfer complex concepts to easily understood reports
