We are hiring an Employee and Labor Relations Associate for one of our clients in Little Falls, NJ.
Job Description:
- The Employee and Labor Relations Associate provides a full range of employee and labor relations services to Montclair State University employees, management, and supervisors across academic and administrative units.
- PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyzing and interpreting University policies and procedures, union contracts, and applicable labor law.
- Advising managers and supervisors on employment and labor issues, and conducting training.
- Providing problem-solving and decision-making assistance, organizational review and analysis and third-party mediation and conflict resolution.
- Advising management on performance management and personnel actions, drafting, and editing disciplinary documents and conducting investigations where appropriate.
- Coaching and providing counsel to employees in clarifying goals and objectives, enhancing problem solving and in planning and communications skills.
- Representing the University in step one grievances, administrative hearings, and labor actions including preparation of materials and exhibits.
- Preparing and coordinating all schedules, materials and exhibits for departmental investigations.
- Preparing disciplinary and non-disciplinary memoranda, Preliminary Notice of Disciplinary Action (PNDA), and Final Notice of Disciplinary Action (FNDA), step decisions and/or determinations and specifications for major discipline.
- Drafting and issuing settlement agreements to employees and union representatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Management reserves the right to revise and change Principal Duties and Responsibilities based on operational need.
Skill Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, labor relations or related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of employee and labor relations experience in a unionized environment.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to compensation,benefits, employment and labor.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing contracts or policies, issue spotting violations or compliance issues, analyzing labor relations practices or procedures, considering alternative solutions and consequences, and proposing solutions.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally while managing multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal and oral/written communications skills.
Skills Preferred:
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Public sector and/or higher education employee and labor relations experience, State of New Jersey preferred.
- Superior analytical and project management skills.
Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human resources, labor relations or related field.

Work Hours:
- 8:30am to 4:30pm
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $24.95 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift

- Little Falls, NJ: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
Experience:
- Microsoft Office: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- Professional In Human Resources (Preferred)
