Part-time Digital Media Studio Associate with a Focus in 3D-Printing
The Joliet Public Library’s Digital Media Studio, located at the downtown Ottawa Street building,
needs a creative and customer-service oriented Associate to assist patrons with utilizing
hardware and software applications. Reporting to the DMS Manager, our ideal candidate is
experienced in 3D printing, and proficient with running and maintaining FDM (Filament) printers
as our sole 3D technician. They possess a strong work ethic, can effectively operate digital media
equipment, and are comfortable with developing and providing patron instruction on the design
software in our Digital Media Lab. Experience with 3D editing and printing are required. Further
on the job training will be provided to the right candidate. Spanish speaking skills are a plus.
This position is for 29-hours per week; evening and weekend availability required. The desired
regular schedule is Monday 2:30-9:00pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 1:00-9:00pm.
Responsibilities
Maintain an atmosphere conducive to creating and exploring.

• Assist patrons and staff through formal classes and one-on-one interactions.
• Teach a variety of classes on topics such as 3D design, 3D printing, and other media

technology.

• Assist staff by answering questions, providing technical help, and facilitating the use of

the Digital Media Studio. Assist patrons with 3D printing and graphic design production.

• Share responsibility for the development and maintenance of the Library’s website and

digital discovery services, as related to the DMS and promotions.

• Provide tours of the Digital Media Studio.
• Assist in the development of staff audio-visual workshops and in the production of

instructional materials.

• Assist in the creation of technology training videos.
• Assist in designing and printing of flyers, posters, and banners for both patrons and staff.
• Assist in the on-going development and improvement of the Digital Media Studio.
• Open, supervise, and close the Digital Media Studio.
• Track and report specified statistics for the Digital Media Studio.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Combination of education and experience necessary to effectively use and teach the
equipment and applications available in the DMS.

• A strong interest in technology and the ability to learn new applications.
• Ability to provide instruction to others.
• Ability to provide all maintenance on Bed Slinger, Delta, and Corexy/H-Bot printers

independently without instruction.

• Ability to teach patrons 3D software and provide knowledge about printing and PLA.
• Ability to teach staff how to use 3D softwares, 3D printers, and do 3D maintenance.

• Ability to relate to patrons of all ages in a positive, patient, and productive manner.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers from all departments.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
• Ability to work a variety of hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform job duties.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

Compensation:
Starting January 1, 2023, the pay will be $20.00 per hour. Enrollment in IMRF is included.
