SureStaff has an immediate need for a
CNC Setup Operator I in the
Kenosha, WI area. The
CNC Setup Operator I will be responsible for running more than one machine and will operate computerized numerical control machines to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations to meet precise tolerance and finish requirements.

- Reviews methods sheet, blueprints, and specifications to determine setup procedure, allotted setup time, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
- Assembles cutting tools in recommended holders per the setup sheet provided. Measures and documents each tool length using the offline tool pre-setter. Notify cell leader or Operations Manager of any deviations from standard.
- Follow setup procedures to properly install work holding and labeled tooling into the machine according to setup instructions. Train Operator II to assist when appropriate.
- Use appropriate method to find the offsets as described in the setup instructions and/or offset program; ie probe, heimer digital center, coaxial indicator.
- Complete the setup in a timely fashion by proofing the cycle, submitting a first piece to Quality, working with Engineering/Op Manager to make adjustments, and receiving the approval to run.
- Assemble all appropriate gages to inspect the workpiece. Organize the work area to promote a smooth process flow.
- Train and mentor operator level I and II on how to properly load the material, run the cycle, and inspect per the method and inspection documents.
- Operates CNC lathe and mill machines. Produces manufactured parts and routinely inspects parts to ensure high quality.
- Inserts stock piece, closes door, punches appropriate controls to start and stop the process.
- Changes location of work piece during machining process on semi-automatic machines as specified in loading instructions.
- Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
- Removes debris with compressed air as needed between steps.
- Grinds off burrs on finished parts. May machine materials other than metal such as composites.
- Measures workpiece for conformance to specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments such as caliper, micrometer, or plug gauge provided.
- Change tooling to machine parts according to specifications. Able to troubleshoot discrepancies and make necessary adjustments.
- Performs offset adjustments without supervision of cell lead/supervisor as needed. Notifies Cell Leader/Supervisor of issues which cannot be quickly and easily corrected.
- Reviews blueprints, method sheets and specifications to determine loading procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished workpiece.
- Working this cell includes operating multiple machines simultaneously while washing/rustproofing finished parts and packaging into containers for shipping.
- Performs daily maintenance to ensure equipment and work area are always clean and organized. Offers suggestions to make improvements to product flow and/or processes whenever possible.
- Mentor and assist Operator I and II. May be asked to assist in changing tools, making offset adjustments, and verifying changes to for Operator I.
Preferred Candidate Qualifications:
- 3+ years of machining related experience and High School education OR completion of certificate program at technical college and 1+ years related experience
- Ability to read and interpret single piece blueprints, method sheets, and documentation
- Effective and clear communication with coworkers and supervisors
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
- Familiarity with CNC computers and related software
