Job Title: Patient Communication Specialist

Summary: This position is responsible for patient contacts for new patient appointments, recalls, no-shows, rescheduled appointments, follow-up appointments, and “lost” patients who have not been seen in more than a year, while ensuring the patients have a pleasant scheduling experience.
Responsibilities:
- Makes and takes call with courtesy and compassion, and informs patients of visit requirements.
- Facilitates patient flow and communicates changes with patients and clinical staff.
- Explains financial requirements to the patients or responsible parties.
4. Schedules appointments using EHR for patients, makes reminder calls one business day before appointments and maintains the schedule (e.g. cancellations or additions) to ensure accuracy.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Genuinely enjoys people
- Ability to handle extensive phone work
- Ability to learn medical practice protocols and the EHR scheduling system
- Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques
- Ability and desire to learn medical terminology
- Knowledge of basic math and modern office procedures
- Ability to multitask effectively, dealing with phone calls to and from patients, and others in the office in a pleasant manner
- Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients about appointments in all circumstances including when they are ill or have an emergency, and without taking offense
- Ability to analyze situations and respond appropriately
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patient records
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: Three years of experience in a customer service role
Mental and Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical and mental abilities to perform the tasks normally associated with a service representative that is mostly sedentary with occasional standing, walking, and reaching. Daily and repetitive data entry may cause nerve problems unless ergonomic techniques are used. Periodic stress occurs from handling many calls and dealing with patient requests.
Conditions: The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies, labs, hospitals, nursing homes, and other members of the public on a regular basis.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
