The Benefits Specialist position is responsible for directing and planning the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, leave administration, life insurance, critical illness and accident plan, health saving account, retirement plans, etc.). This position provides excellent customer service and designs quality benefits plans. The Specialist continually investigates new benefits programs, improves existing programs, and supervises, monitors, and administers the current benefits plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, finance, or a related field.
- 2 years of experience as a Benefits Specialist or in a similar role.
- Working knowledge of relevant policies and regulations.
- Strong MS Excel skills.
- Be a team player.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical capabilities.
- Attention to detail.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, leave requests, rollovers, distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing.
- Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits database and update employee payroll records.
- Advise and inform employees of the details of the company's benefit programs.
- Resolve benefit-related issues and respond to queries and requests in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with payroll and ensure that employer contributions and payroll deductions are processed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Gather employee payroll data and oversees the reconciliation of monthly group benefits billings
- Maintain and create records, reports, and documentation in accordance with federal, state, and provider regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
- Evaluate the efficiency and value of current benefit programs and make recommendations for improvement.
- Works with CFO and Director of Benefits to design, recommend, and implement new benefits programs. Examine possible plan designs and benefits cost changes.
- Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.

- Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums, and plan administration.
- Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
- Perform plan audits. Prepare, collect, and organize data for actuarial assessments. Review data in conjunction with actuarial evaluation task forces.
- Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits package.
- Design and distribute materials for benefits orientations, open enrollment and summary plan descriptions. Provide training and support to HR associates and the field staff.
