Adoption Choice Inc. (ACI) is a private, non-profit licensed adoption agency serving the entire state of Wisconsin. Since 1986, we’ve been Wisconsin’s premier adoption agency dedicated to creating new families and relationships through adoption, providing adoptive families and birth parents with guidance, counseling, and services every step of the way.

Due to the growing needs of our company, we are looking for a Full Time Adoption Counselor. The successful candidate will provide pre and post adoption services to potential adoptive families as well as birth parent counseling services for domestic and international adoptions as well as agency outreach and program development.

What an Adoption Counselor will do

• Provides both international and domestic adoption home studies, parent education, and post-placement services
• Supervises placements of children including maintenance of appropriate records and conducts post-placement visits
• Prepares all necessary documents and coordinates the adoption process in accordance with all WI state statutes and other state’s guidelines as needed
• Prepares all necessary documents and coordinates the adoption process in accordance with all international guidelines specific to each country
• Communicates with all prospective adoptive individuals as well as birth parents and maintains contact throughout and following the process of each adoption with special attention to individual client needs as well as coordinating services to meet those needs
• Provides support, counseling, consultation, and adoption information as needed
• Maintains awareness of State licensing and Hague requirements and changes as they occur as well as implementing changes to maintain compliance
• Conducts informational meetings for prospective adoptive families
• Participates in program development and outreach
• Other duties may be assigned

What an Adoption Counselor needs to have

• Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling preferred, however a licensed bachelor's level social worker/counselor with experience in social work and adoption would also be viewed as qualified.
• Degrees in other related fields also considered.
• Knowledge of state and county resources
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Detail oriented, flexible, self-motivated and goal/deadline oriented
• Works well independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of physical and mental illnesses and their effects on personality
• Ability to establish rapport with children and families as well as working effectively within the agency and the social work community at large
