The Radiologic Technologist will perform diagnostic radiographic procedures by applying ionizing radiation to capture images of tissues, bones, organs, and vessels, and may assist in the administration of radiation therapy treatments or radiopharmaceuticals. Their role is to assist medical providers in the diagnosis and, sometimes, treatment of diseases and injuries. They will work with a diverse patient population including geriatric and pediatric patients, meeting their physical and psychological needs. This person will also ensure the quality of images by following all radiology protocols while applying principles of radiation safety in compliance with federal, state, and departmental standards, and assuring patient safety and satisfaction during radiographic procedures.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares examination rooms, positions patients, and operates radiographic equipment to produce diagnostic-quality radiographs.
- Conducts a patient interview to attain a full understanding of the procedure, obtain the consent of the patient, and obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient.
- Explains the procedures, answers questions, and ensures patients’ comfort.
- Uses appropriate devices: fixed and stationary grid, protective clothing, and positioning aids to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
- Practices ALARA and demonstrates expertise in minimizing radiation exposure to the patient, self, and other members of the health care team by utilizing equipment and lead accessories in accordance with an accepted standard of practice.
- Complies with radiation monitoring standards.
- Selects correct exposure factors and ensures anatomical labeling and identification of each image.
- Exercises clinical judgment, critiques images, and makes necessary adjustments in technical factors, patient positioning, supplemental views etc. within the scope of practice.
- Inserting commands and data into the computer to document and specify the scan sequences and monitoring the video display to adjust the density or contrast.
- Enters medical history for radiography studies and tracking.
- Confers with the radiologist or other providers for purposes of clarifying orders to ensure the appropriateness of examination.
- Preserves and protects the confidentiality of any information, either medical or personal, acquired through professional contact with the patient and adheres to HIPAA regulations.
- Adheres to OSHA regulations and follows universal precaution guidelines.
- Maintains the inventory of x-ray film, universal precaution supplies and other departmental inventory.
- Troubleshoots, assesses and reports equipment malfunctions. Coordinates service for repairs.
- Establishes and maintains ethical working relationships and good rapport with all clinic personnel, providers, and vendors.
- Makes patients feel comfortable and assures patient safety and satisfaction during radiographic procedures.
- Works effectively with patients, patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.
- Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of an accredited radiography education program.
- Current license issued by the State of California as a Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT).
- Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Possession of a sound working knowledge of radiologic techniques, principles, positioning and safety.
- Must have strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to function in a team environment.
- Ability to carry out oral and written instructions regarding imaging procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, stressful situations, while maintaining a professional demeanor.
- Experience with DEXA scans preferred.
- Current documentation of Basic Life Support is required.
LANGUAGE:
- Must be able to fluently read, write and speak English.
- The ability to speak Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) is highly preferred.
