Position Information
These positions may be filled as either a Probational appointment, temporary Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all permanent statewide classified and agency wide employees); WAE; or Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment of not less than 12 months and not more than 24.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Workers' Compensation Dispute Resolution Specialist 1 or 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).Please refer to the 'Job Specifications' tab located at the top of the LA Careers 'Current Job Opportunities' page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.

Function of Work:
To provide support services to, to conduct research for, and to prepare summaries for a Workers' Compensation Judge or a mediator which will assist the judge and the mediator in his or her evaluation of the legal and factual issues presented in Workers' Compensation disputes.

Entry.
Supervision Received:
Close from a Workers' Compensation Judge or mediator.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
Department of Labor, Office of Workers' Compensation.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Workers' Compensation Dispute Resolution Specialist 2 by lack of journeyman level duties.
Performs extensive professional Workers' Compensation communication.
Applies extensive work experiences in conducting intensive investigations to discover and evaluate insurance facts.
Provides procedural guidance and conveys oral and written procedural information to public and federal officials, employees, employers, insurance carriers, attorneys, and the medical community in resolving Workers' Compensation disputes.
Contacts private and governmental officials, insurance carriers, and the legal community in providing interpretations of the state's Workers' Compensation procedures as they relate to resolution of disputed claims.
Researches, examines, and Shepardizes law in connection with preparation of a Workers' Compensation Judge's opinions.
Summarizes depositions (before or after hearings) in order to facilitate the Workers' Compensation Judge's rendering of decisions in a timely manner.
Determines what portions of evidence and what legal principles are critical to a Workers' Compensation Judge's decision and brings these matters to his or her attention.
