Position Title: Evening/Weekend Studies Specialist
Classification: Part-Time /Non-exempt
Position Description
Summary
In conjunction with the Academic Manager, coordinates and manages the Evening/Weekend Studies Program that offers after-hours activities that strengthen and build on students’ academic skills. Plans and prepares instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals. Instructs students in the areas of grammar, reading, writing, speaking, listening, and pronunciation to help students gain academic, career technical training, and independent living skills that will prepare them for career readiness (employment), advanced training, and/or advanced career training (college).
Essential Functions
1. Provides academic instruction to students to enhance learning from the approved academic education curriculum.
2. Supports struggling students defined as those who have not yet earned a high school diploma or equivalency or attained an Educational Functioning Level (EFL) 5 in Reading and/or EFL 6 in Math on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) 11/12. Also, students who are not making adequate progress on Training Achievement Record completion are candidates for this program.
3. Teaches study skills.
4. Monitors student progress. Ensures students are well prepared for tests/assessments. Ensures test results are documented and recorded using Student Testing System (STS) in the Center Information System (CIS).
5. Determines the need and provides targeted training in reading skills. Provides feedback to the student.
6. Provides personal and academic counseling to students.
7. Provides instruction in life skills such as digital literacy.
8. Provides enrichment activities that directly impact training-day goals and prepare students for lifelong learning.
9. Controls the use of materials and equipment that supports student learning.
10. Incorporates applied academics into the Evening/Weekend Studies Program/curriculum.
11. Assists with the planning and scheduling of courses for the Evening/Weekend Studies Program.
12. Measures students’ progress through observation and the administration of oral/written tests.
13. Makes recommendations concerning future studies and training needs.
14. Tutors students or arranges for tutoring provided by volunteers or outside educational agencies.
15. Maintains up-to-date skills in field of specialty through available sources such as publications, formal study programs, and in-service training.
16. Participates in the student employability certification process.
17. Models, mentors, and monitors the positive normative culture of the center.
18. Acts as a responsible custodian for assigned center property.
19. Reports violations of ethical behavior.
20. Suggests opportunities for continuous operational improvement and reduction of waste.
21. Identifies and reports environmental health and safety concerns.

Requirements
Required Education & Experience
- Associate’s degree preferred
- Two to three years of related experience and/or training
Certifications/Competencies
- Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in instruction (analytical thinking, problem-solving, technology integration, communication, and evaluation of information)
- Ability to evaluate personnel under management and make recommendations regarding disciplinary actions, promotions, and/or merit increases
- Participation in ePRH-mandated staff training (mandatory); failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination
- Ability to promote the Career Success Standards (CSS) by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students when necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer proficiency
Minimum Eligibility Qualifications
- If position requires driving, a valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record is required
- I-9 documentation required to verify authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check
