Level I/II Certification:
$60,281 - $79,326/year
Level III Certification:
$65,200 - $85,799/year
Level IV Certification:

The City of Hillsboro is searching for a Level I-IV Water Treatment Plant Operator, certified by the Oregon Health Authority. In this position you will be reporting to work at the Joint Water Commission (JWC), located just south of Forest Grove, Oregon. In this position you will be working as a Water Plant Operator at the City of Hillsboro Slow Sand Filtration Plant (SSFP).

The Operator is responsible for ensuring the Water Plant meets system demands and water quality goals regulated by the Oregon Health Authority. This position applies a heavy emphasis on slow sand operations and maintenance of process instrumentation. The Slow Sand Filtration Plant is located in Oregon’s Coast Range making this position a great opportunity for someone who loves the outdoors.

The Ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate will have at least a level I Treatment certification with the State of Oregon, or obtain treatment 1 certification within 6 months of hire. Depending on qualifications, preference may be given to higher certification levels. Thorough knowledge of water treatment as it pertains to a Slow Sand Filtration Plant is highly desirable. in this role you will work closely with another operator to provide coverage at the SSFP. A Water/Wastewater technology degree is preferred, but not required.

Schedule:
The candidate will work a day shift at the Slow Sand Filtration Plant (SSFP) with the exact schedule to be determined. On-call duties as well as weekend and holiday coverage may be required. The SSFP serves drinking water to Cherry Grove and unincorporated areas west of Hillsboro.

Current/Upcoming Projects:
There are several projects that are planned or in process at the SSFP. The upper system pipe assessment and planning for transmission pipe replacement and rehabilitation, new telemetry installation to bolster communications, and upgrades to the soda ash system used for adjusting pH. Also, recently purchased sand skimming machinery for cleaning the filters has streamlined this process.

The City of Hillsboro is partnering with TVWD and the City of Beaverton to construct a brand new WTP in Sherwood. Also included in this endeavor is the infrastructure to bring water from the Willamette River in Wilsonville to the plant in Sherwood and transmission lines north to the Sunset Hwy at Cornelius Pass Rd. The new WTP is scheduled to be commissioned in 2025/26.

Acceptable Training and Certifications:
  • Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record;
  • Oregon Health Authority Water Treatment Plant Operator I Certification – or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
