JOB PURPOSE:LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, headquartered in downtown San Francisco, is looking for a full-time Vice President of Development (VPD) to fill a key role in our 120-year-old organization. The VPD has overall responsibility for agency fundraising from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources.
Funds raised by the VPD, and his/her team will provide resources for dozens of blindness programs spanning the life cycle from infants to seniors. The Development Department supports programs ranging from blindness skills training, youth mentorship, employment immersion, access technology, advocacy, adaptive products, social enterprises, and summer camp programming for our renowned Enchanted Hills Camp and Retreat (EHC) in Napa. Our current operating budget is in the range of $23 million.
The Vice President of Development will serve on the Executive Leadership Team and reportdirectly to the CEO. They will lead the Development Department staff, overseeing all grants, events, major gifts, appeals, and database responsibilities, leading a growing team. They will work particularly closely with Finance, Communications, Programs, Connections, and the EHC Director of Hospitality.
The VPD has overall responsibility for general agency fundraising, planned giving, and a $13million capital campaign for Enchanted Hills Camp and Retreat.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education or Equivalent:- College graduate; a degree in Communication, Marketing, or Business is preferred but not required
- Master's degree or certification in nonprofit management is a plus but not required
Experience:
The role requires a minimum of seven years of experience in comprehensive fundraising program execution, including experience:
- Developing and expanding agency fundraising plans
- Leading a multi-million capital campaign with support by the Capital Campaign Manager.
- Cultivating major donors
- Creating and expanding planned giving programs
- Demonstrated experience in solicitation and management of significant institutional and corporate grants
- Supervising multiple staff members
- Securing six and seven-figure institutional grants.
The VPD must have compelling writing and editing skills with the ability to write quickly and meet multiple deadlines. He or she must have demonstrated an ability to write strong narratives that are affecting and engaging. Basic copyediting and production-ready proofing is a plus.
In addition, the vice president must have a demonstrated expertise in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, fundraising platforms, nonprofit customer relationship manager (CRM) systems, and prospecting software. Experience with Salesforce, Qgiv, and iWave is a plus.
This position is best filled by a strong, internally motivated self-starter with a high degree of organization. The role requires a dedicated, diplomatic, strategic, and passionate individual. JOB RESPONSIBILITIESThe Vice President of Development will initiate and deepens relationships with key donors as part of a structured moves management calendar, with contemporaneous relationship management in a nonprofit CRM system, currently Salesforce.
DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES- Manage individual and corporate giving through online and traditional means, includingappeals, sponsorships, moves management, stewardship, and reporting.
- Develops warm, ongoing, and structured relationships with key donors and institutions including face-to-face meetings, small events, and repeated personal touches. Facilitates donor relationships with LightHouse c-suite executives, LightHouse program directors, and LightHouse board members.
- Functioning as a lead individual giving officer for the agency.
- Oversee grants management to maximizes private and public ("contract") grant funding, including development of proposals, timely and accurate narratives, pre-and post-surveys, and required financial reporting.
- The VPD develops and implements processes to streamline system interfaces and communication with Finance, Programs, Information Systems, Communications, the Executive Leadership Team, and the board of directors.
- Manage LightHouse's Legacy Society and publicize multiple tax-friendly ways to obtain planned giving donations, including CRT's, donor-advised funds, gift annuities, in-kind donations, and more.
- Oversee Development Project Manager and Capital Campaign Manager in development events hosted by LightHouse or third parties. The Capital Campaign Manager will support the $13+ million capital campaign for the expansion and reimagination of Enchanted Hills Camp and Retreat.
- Originate and implement a strategy of frequent donor touches to increase engagement through social media and storytelling.
- Serve as primary staff coordinator of board fundraising initiatives. Works with directors individually and as a group to stay active in agency fundraising.
- Develop and oversee department budget Communicate regularly with the Finance department on budget issues, trends, and analyses.
- Develop standard processes and practices within Development to ensure long term data fidelity.
- As part of LightHouse's Executive Leadership team, collaborates with all vice-presidents on agency goals, initiatives, and help guide long-term strategic priorities.
- Oversee development of the agency Annual Report
- Oversee seasonal fundraising appeals, special-purpose event management, and weekly reporting of donor recognition.
- Overall responsibility to lead a team to develop a comprehensive plan to segment and maintain LightHouse donor and other databases by relevant characteristics.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Ability to safely and properly use common office equipment.
- Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for long periods of time; operate standard office equipment and basic AV systems for screen and audio presentations.
- The ability to work at offsite locations, including visits to key donors, foundations, corporate partners, and fundraising events, including occasional overnight stays at EHC.
