Darlington House, a premier wedding and events venue located in La Jolla, wants you to join our team as a part-time Venue Attendant! We are looking for someone cheerful and friendly with an eye for detail who is available to work events.
Venue Attendants represent Darlington House and serve as the primary day-of contact for weddings and special events. To succeed in this position, the Venue Attendant will take pride and ownership over the appearance of our historic home and gardens, as well as demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication skills with clients, guests, and vendors. The Venue Attendant should be comfortable working in a busy environment with minimal supervision, thinking “on their feet”, and working with volunteers and coworkers of varying experience and backgrounds. Every event at our venue is different, so the Venue Attendant will also need to be accepting of change and able to “go with the flow” while still maintaining the venue’s professional integrity.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Opening/closing the venue on scheduled days and appointed times.
- Greeting guests and helping to familiarize them with the venue.
- Reviewing and reporting any necessary maintenance or deep-cleaning needs.
- Enforcing all contract rules and safety requirements with kindness and firmness.
- Reviewing venue rules with vendors before event and working with event coordinator to enforce rules during event.
- Monitoring decibel level throughout event in order to follow noise ordinance laws.
- Maintaining restroom supplies and cleanliness throughout the event.
- Supervising all vendor breakdown at end of event to ensure timely end of event in keeping with noise ordinance laws and contract agreements.
- Light housekeeping duties when needed, such as: dusting, sweeping, skimming fountain, hand-watering plants, vacuuming and spot-cleaning carpets, taking out the trash, plunging toilets.
- At the end of the evening, conduct a walk through with the caterer/event captain and event coordinator to check for cleanliness, damages, and/or missing items and filing Incident Reports as necessary.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
General Requirements
- One-year experience in customer service or hospitality industry preferred.
- High school graduate; some college preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
- Must be able to stand and work on their feet for long stretches and navigate stairs without ramp access.
- Must be available Thursday through Sunday year-round, both day and evening; availability during the week (both day and evening) may be needed periodically as well. This is a “semi-seasonal” position. Number of shifts scheuled are dependent upon event schedule.
