WHO WE ARE

As a Technical Writer (Bridger) for the Training & Program Support department within the Metropolitan Council Environmental Services division (MCES), you will have the opportunity to develop, edit and maintain routine technical documents to support daily operations and training. You will also perform research and work with subject matter experts (SME’s) to determine job aid content, create document drafts, and review with experts prior to finalizing.

What is the Bridge Program?
The Bridge Program is a long-term, two-year position, which allows students and recent graduates to bridge the gap between their education and experience to become successful in the workplace.

The Bridge program is designed to be a long-term temporary (2 years) position. This position is eligible for benefits.

Who is the Metropolitan Council?
The Metropolitan Council is made up of several operating divisions that service the Twin Cities Metropolitan area in a number of ways.


  • Metropolitan Council Environmental Services (
    the division for this position) is an area leader in Environmental Stewardship to provide Clean water for future generations. MCES values respect, inclusiveness, integrity, commitment, and excellence as it manages wastewater treatment plants and the regional wastewater collection system for the seven-county metropolitan region
  • Metro Transit provides bus and light rail public transportation for the greater metropolitan area
  • Community Development is responsible for helping the Council shape its regional growth plan and Metro HRA provides affordable housing programs in the region
  • Metropolitan Transportation Services (MTS) is responsible for the transportation planning functions as the Twin Cities metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for transportation
  • Regional Administration provides support services (Finance, Payroll, HR, etc.) for the Council

What you would do in this job

  • Meet with subject matter experts to determine technical document content and other media content needed to produce accurate, high-quality and user friendly, accessible content.
  • Create and/or edit technical documents and other media content using software such as Arbortext editor, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Premier Pro.
  • Communicate technical document and other media content availability to staff, solicit feedback and encourage utilization.
  • Maintain technical document content and other media content on intranet and platforms such as Titania Facilities and Operations Library, Microsoft Stream.
  • Produce images and video and other media to embed in technical documents and in eLearning modules, as well as for placement in Microsoft Stream, Learn LMS and other platforms used at the MCES.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Technical Writing, Journalism or related field
    OR
  • Associate's degree AND two years of relating experience in Technical Writing, Journalism.

Bridge Program Eligibility:
  • Graduated with a 4-year Degree within the last 2 years from posting date
    OR
  • Graduated with a Master’s Degree within the last 2 years from posting date
    OR
  • Graduated with a 2-year degree within the last 2 years from posting date AND 2 years of relatable experience

What your work environment would be:
Position works in an office and industrial environment. Some travel to industrial facilities in the Twin Cities Metro area will be required where meetings with subject matter experts in the field take place and photographs, videos and other content is captured.
