Technical Supervisor (CLIA/CAP Lab)

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Molecular Laboratory Technical Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results. The Supervisor assists the leadership team with operational and administrative functions that facilitate excellent patient care, maintain laboratory functions, and ensure quality objectives. In addition, the Supervisor acts as a Medical Laboratory Scientist as needed to cover absences and/or increased production demands.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out laboratory operations in compliance with regulatory guidelines of CLIA/CAP and other applicable agencies
- Perform routine supervisory work and manages team in accordance with all NuProbe Policies and Procedures
- Ensure sufficient headcount to support production needs and assist with hiring, managing, training/developing, evaluating, and exiting employees
- Daily supervision of team by effectively providing guidance and leadership to ensure continuous quality work output and timely goal attainment
- Monitor and manage workforce member performance and provide corrective actions and/or retraining of laboratory personnel to close identified skill gaps to ensure a competent workforce
- Ensure adequate allocation of resources including financial, instrumentation, supply, and personnel
- Ensure the orientation, training, and competency of testing personnel prior to independently performing testing on patient specimens per NuProbe policy and regulatory requirements
- Ensure that sufficient appropriately qualified testing personnel are recruited and trained to manage the complexity and scope of service provided, and that the competency of all individuals performing test procedures is regularly reviewed
- Provide clear and timely communication, including bringing problems and non-conformities to the attention of the laboratory management
- Ensure or perform day-to-day supervision of test performance by testing personnel.
- Ensure or perform Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Quality Improvement to maintain acceptable level of testing performance
- Ensure actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specification and avoid reporting until test system is functioning properly
- Ensure enrollment and participation in proficiency testing or alternative performance assessment
- May participate in selection of test methodology and verification or validation of laboratory test performance
- Collaborate effectively with all departments and participate in audit-related events
- May provide technical expertise in the use, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all laboratory instruments, equipment, reagents, and procedures
- Provide input for Strategic Planning, annual budget, and Standards of Performance
- Participate in committees, task forces, and improvement teams as defined
- Assist with the complete instrument and/or testing method correlation prior to anticipated implementation
- Conduct oneself and ensure others function according to NuProbe Policies and Procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Physical and Other Requirements:
This position requires stooping, bending the body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist and reaching. The job may occasionally require exertion up to 10 pounds and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
Fine Motor Control: Pipetting with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.
Job Qualifications and Education
Bachelor's Degree or better in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology field.
At least four (4) years of laboratory training and/or experience in high complexity testing, at least one of which is in molecular pathology methods; OR
Master’s degree with at least two years of laboratory training and/or experience in high complexity testing, at least one of which is in molecular pathology methods; OR
Doctoral degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science
from an accredited institution with at least one year of laboratory training and/or
experience in high complexity testing, at least one of which is in molecular pathology methods.
Preferred
Experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility
Licenses & Certifications
Required
Nationally recognized certification such as applicable ASCP or AAB certification. Certification may be obtained within 6 months from hire date.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
