General Job Function:

  • To coordinate professional development for district personnel in order to accomplish the English language acquisition goals set forth in the No Child Left Behind Law of 2001
  • To mentor ESL teachers, in the methods and techniques of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to assist students in achieving the goals set forth in the No Child Left Behind Law of 2001


Education/Training/Experience:

  • Standard New Mexico teaching license with endorsements in Bilingual Education and TESOL
  • A. Degree in Bilingual Education or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • Five years experience in an English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or Bilingual classroom setting
  • Experience in collecting data, disaggregating, and analyzing student achievement data for the purpose of evaluating program effectiveness


Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:


Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):

Standard office equipment and vehicle for district travel. A district car may be used or if the employee uses his/her own vehicle mileage reimbursement is available.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements:

Regularly required to walk, talk and listen. Frequently it is required to stand and sit. Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Light lifting at times.


Environmental Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Survey professional development needs and implement a training program to meet identified needs in accordance with Title ii-A of No Child Left Behind.
  • Implement the parent involvement component of the Title lll-A program and seek additional ways of meeting parent needs incompliance with the program.
  • Assist the Bilingual/Federal Programs Director and the bilingual Education Program where applicable.
  • Mentor ESL teachers by working in classrooms (3days weekly). These visits will ensure the highest quality instruction.
  • Other duties as required by the Director or Designee.


Personal Accountability:

  • Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
  • Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
  • Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
  • Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
  • Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and appropriate/special application,
  • Protects the District’s resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and equipment.
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.


EMPLOYMENT: Upon an offer of employment, pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1968, pass a background check and provide necessary documentation qualifications.
