The Rodman is an entry level position. The Rodman works with and supports the field crew to complete their assignments in the field. The person must be 18 years old. The job is a full-time position working outside in the environs of the Tri-County area. The role requires good physical health and positive attitude. The Rodman position is the first step towards a possible career path in Land Surveying. Today's Professional Surveyors and Mappers (PSM's) earn six figure salaries plus and are high demand. Depending on one's disposition one can grow professionally quickly in the field.
Examples of responsibilities and activities include:
- Load/unload surveying equipment for transportation, including cleaning and storing surveying equipment
- Keep crew's assigned vehicle clean, properly maintained, and stocked with the necessary equipment and supplies as instructed by the Crew Chief, and reporting any mechanical or safety related problems
- Accurately and efficiently set up equipment, operate survey instruments, levels, data collectors, clear cut-lines, establish control-topo points for field survey projects
- Transfer survey data to and from data collector for use in the field and office
- Good physical mobility is required, including standing, walking, use of hand tools and various field equipment, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, as well as lifting and/or moving up to 50-75 pounds
Minimum Qualifications:
- Three (3) years of industry experience in South Florida
- High School Degree or G.E.D.
- Working knowledge of construction layout, and data collection
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate surveying equipment, including GPS equipment (Leica and Trimble GPS), Robotic, Total Stations, Data Collectors and Levels
- Must be familiar with the basic types of land surveying and terminology and be knowledgeable about the field duties of an Instrument Operator
- Current and valid Driver's License
- FDOT experience is a plus, but not required
- Ability to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, and the ability to travel out of town periodically when necessary
