Position Summary:
Schafer Industries is currently seeking a Material Flow/Customer Service Manager for its Schafer Gear Works operation in South Bend, Indiana.

Job Summary:
Supervises and manages all production/materials activities as well as customer service functions at Gear Works plant. Ensures that the company production targets are met and that the entire production/materials and customer service processes run smoothly and cost effectively.

Essential Functions:
  • Sourcing and procurement of raw materials from certified or approved vendors.
  • Supplier management and negotiations
  • Periodic OSP evaluation and comparison
  • Capacity planning for manufacturing and supply chain activities
  • Supply chain management with vendors and customers
  • International Sourcing facilitation and oversight
  • Experience with LEAN
  • Quote evaluation and comparison considering cost, vendor stability and quality
  • ERP database management and reporting
  • Strategic team member for planning new product introductions
  • Inventory management and control using ERP system, team information, and visual resources
  • Lead and coach of customer service and scheduler/buyer
  • Responsible for KPI Reporting on specific areas of responsibility
  • Ability to back fill scheduler / buyer / customer service employees as needed
  • Review customer orders for trend changes and communicate to production manager and site leader for necessary action plan.
Qualifications

  • BS degree in Business, Engineering, or Supply Chain preferred.
  • Certification in procurement, materials management, or strategic planning is preferred.
  • Three to Five years of procurement or planning experience in a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced ERP software skills. Experience with Infor/Visual ERP is preferred.
  • Strategic planning experience with strong analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills with a background in negotiating. Team player.
  • Intermediate skill levels with Microsoft Office programs; excellent Excel capabilities.
