Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Coordinates and monitors the day-to-day operations of the Undergraduate Studies Office in the English Department, serving over 500 students enrolled in four (4) different major programs of study and four (4) different minors, including the secondary education major in English, which tracks students into the Master of Teaching program in the College of Education, requiring coordination with that program. As the sole staff person for all undergraduate programs, performs all administrative duties for the Undergraduate Studies Office associated with advisement, course scheduling, and student services. Acts as a primary academic advisor for new incoming students and coordinates all advising, scheduling, and registration needs for all English majors and minors. Maintains current records for all English majors along with data on undergraduate courses and course outcomes. Serves as primary contact for students, faculty, all university offices and departments, and the general public. Provides information in response to emails, telephone, and walk-in inquiries regarding procedures for applying to major and minor programs, requirements, courses offered, and registration. Advises the Director, the Undergraduate Committee, and other administrators on departmental statistics, matters related to enrollment, student service programs, policies, and procedures. Works in conjunction with the Undergraduate Program Director on development and recruitment, special programs, and initiatives. Assists in the design, development, and implementation of student services programs; recommends changes in policies and procedures to improve programs.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two years of administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Student Services or related field; experience in Student Services.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent organizational skills, written and oral communication skills, initiative, efficiency, and follow-through; Microsoft Office and internet skills; Highly desirable is having experience with spreadsheets, web-authoring, database, and USC systems (Banner, SSC, Data Warehouse, PeopleSoft, etc.). Familiarity with UofSC procedures and offices will be extremely helpful. Flexibility and the capacity to adapt to rapidly changing systems. Must be able to: work independently and proactively; identify, develop and implement procedures, programs and activities that will support students and recruit them into our programs; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff and the general public.
