SUMMARY:
Under general direction, provides a range of services for youth and adults conducting storytelling and other learning programs as assigned in the Library and in the community. Upholds the Library System's mission, vision and values.

Bachelor's Degree in education, or a closely related field; AND two (2) years of professional early childhood education experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.

Under General Direction - Incumbents at this level have considerable latitude in the application of departmental policy, and they follow general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments. They are responsible for planning and organizing their own workload, but ordinarily cannot change methods of their assigned work unit, established operations, or departmental policy without supervisor approval. Supervision is minimal, indirect, and usually limited to technical oversight.

- Locates age-appropriate materials, (utilizing book reviews, library literature and other resources) and makes selections for programs to be presented.
- Prepares programs to meet time and content objectives; conducts programs to target youth and adult audiences utilizing tools as needed.
- Markets library services and the value of the library cards.
- Tracks, maintains and reports on program attendance statistics for each program presented and other reports when as required.
- Recommends Library materials and services of potential interest to customers.
- Responds to basic information inquiries from customers.
- Interviews customers to determine the type and nature of information or materials required and directs or leads customers to the materials/information or appropriate Library staff member.
- Monitors customers in the Library and remind them of Library policies.
- Performs or assists with any system operations or responds to emergency conditions.
- Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements and policies.
- Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition; ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
- Requests customer feedback on programs including using surveys and sharing appropriately with staff.

- Principles and techniques of preparing and presenting effective educational programs.
- Principles of instructional technology materials, methods and development.
- Learning theory, instructional strategies, curriculum standards and assessments.
- Public library methods and practices.
- Record keeping principles and methods.
- Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.
- Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Developing, implementing and providing educational services and programming.
- Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
- Communicating clearly and effectively to include voice mechanics, characterization, tone, pacing, use of space, connection/eye contact with audiences of all sizes and ages, facial/body gestures and ability to speak as multiple characters in a story.
- Providing effective oral presentations to large and small groups.
- Use of computer and technology resources, applications and hardware related to duties.
