SOY (Supporting Our Youth) PGH E.S. Coordinator Job at Latino Community Center
Summary:
The SOY Pittsburgh Elementary School Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the bilingual SOY (Supporting Our Youth) Pittsburgh After School program at the elementary school level, and for engaging and supporting SOY Pittsburgh elementary school families. SOY Pittsburgh exists to improve academic outcomes for Latino youth while simultaneously building students’ pride in their native language and heritage; thus preparing them for a successful future.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
● Oversee program activities at SOY Pittsburgh Elementary
● Plan evidence-based, engaging after-school activities for K-5th grade Latino students
● Creatively engage students in academic activities (i.e. language arts, math, science, and language development: Spanish and English) that align with program goals - academic advancement, cultural empowerment, and social-emotional development
● Create a positive and welcoming atmosphere that empowers students to take pride in their language and heritage.
● Assist students with homework
● Implement positive classroom management strategies
● Track students’ academic growth and attendance to report to SOY Pittsburgh Manager and Director of Education
● Supervise and collaborate with bilingual assistants, interns, and tutors
● Communicate with community partners and facilitate their activities
● Implement social-emotional development activities with students
● Remain at SOY Pittsburgh with students until the bus or parents pick them up in the evening.
● Document required information (i.e. food delivery and/or attendance)
● Plan field trips to engage Latino elementary school students
● Engage Latino families in SOY Pittsburgh and school educational activities
● Monitor and evaluate student progress and effectiveness of programs
● Attend relevant trainings and meetings
● Maintain safety and security of students at all times.
● Participate in all required Latino Community Center team and department meetings
● Collaborate closely with the education team to support Latino families
● Adhere to all policies, laws, regulations, and codes of ethics and confidentiality as outlined by federal and state laws, and Latino Community Center policies and procedures
● Perform other duties, as needed.

Education, Certification(s), and/or License(s) Required:
● Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Education or related field with one-year work experience related directly to the education and development of children and/or families preferred
● PA Dept. of Education Certification and one-year public education system, case management, or similar experience preferred but not required
● Act 33/34, FBI Clearances, National Sex Offender Registry, and valid PA driver’s license are required
● Complete Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training in Pennsylvania

● Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, program staff, and other agency personnel
● Availability to work flexible hours including afternoons, evenings, and some weekends is required
● Capacity to display understanding, patience, and compassion when caring for youth and communicating with families

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

● The incumbent will operate in an office and classroom setting, and be required to use a computer with a keyboard, telephone, or handheld mobile device for extended periods of time, and office machinery as needed.
● Individuals may occasionally be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 20 pounds.
● The incumbent will be required to travel to assigned schools sites to provide SOY Pittsburgh program.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position; hours may be Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, but incumbent will work at other times or on weekends to adjust to students’ and families’ schedules.
Compensation:
● Hours per week: 40 Hours
● Salary: $40,000-$42,000
● Additional Benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, and PTO time
