This recruitment is for one (1) full-time, permanent, Senior Park Aide position for Saltwater State Park located in King County, WA.

Employees who have workstations located in King County receive a 5% premium pay in addition to the listed salary.

Senior Park Aide jobs can be fun, fulfilling and career starters, but there are a few important things to consider:
  • Weekend work is expected, and you might be asked to work evening shifts.
  • Our Parks are busiest on spring and summer holidays, so we need more of our workers to be on schedule those days. Getting time off around a holiday is not guaranteed.
  • Bathroom cleaning is a task that most Senior Park Aides get to experience fairly regularly.
  • Most positions are at least moderately physical – walking, raking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and moving lighter items (and heavier ones with assistance).

Duties

Under the general supervision of the Park Ranger this position is essential to the State Park's mission of operating, enhancing, and protecting our Park's recreational, cultural, historical, and natural sites. This position assists and contributes toward all aspects of park operations and will lead work responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily routine, inspect, and clean comfort stations, CXTs, and cabins using appropriate chemical cleaners.
  • Follow posted cleaning procedures to clean toilets, urinals, sinks, walls, shower stalls, floors, etc.
  • Routinely inspect and clean other park facilities including the park shop, picnic shelters, and contact stations.
  • Empty garbage cans as needed.
  • Maintain park lawn and grounds using riding mower, push mower, weed trimmers, back pack blowers, and other power tools and/or hand tools.
  • Daily camping registration program and train other staff, provide information including educating the public regarding park rules and regulations, local events, activities, walk and talks, and historic information.
  • Collect, sort, and count park revenue.
  • Provide excellent public service by providing park visitors with information and answering questions and regarding park facilities, park rules and regulations, park passes, reservations, local attractions, and events.
  • Report violations or other problems to park rangers.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Twelve (12) months of experience in building maintenance or grounds keeping, or performing semi-skilled/general carpentry, electrical and/or plumbing repair work.
OR
  • Six (6) months cumulative experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent).
OR
  • Twelve (12) months experience in a special employment program (Washington Conservation Corps) with a parks' agency. A combination of experience (WCC and Park Aide) may be used provided candidate has at least three months experience as a Park Aide (or equivalent).
AND
  • A valid unrestricted driver's license (other than corrective lenses).
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

UNIFORM INFORMATION:


All permanent Senior Park Aides are required to wear a uniform. A complete and properly worn uniform helps establish the professional identity of a Senior Park Aide and promotes respect as a Washington State Parks' employee. This position will receive 4 shirts within the first year (2 shirts per calendar year after year 1), 1 jacket (per 5 calendar years), 1 baseball cap, a clothing stipend of $150.00 per calendar year, and a boot stipend of $150.00 per 2 calendar years. Stipends are intended to offset the cost of clothing worn in the workplace such as pants, boots, raingear, etc.
