Verse is the first SaaS platform to use advanced data science to allow companies to reduce their energy costs and achieve their scope 2 net zero goals – without the use of renewable energy credits (RECs) or carbon offsets. The Sr. Optimization Engineer will work closely with Verse’s commercial and engineering teams. The role will interact directly with cross functional teams to understand customer’s needs and build relevant system level optimization models to showcase the value of our software products. The Sr. Optimization Engineer will be responsible for developing and implementing production grade optimization models that form a core part of Vere’s intelligent software packages and will have significant impact on reducing carbon emissions for Verse customers.
Responsibilities
- Formulate and develop mathematical optimization models that model customer power and emission profiles
- Work closely with engineering, product, and commercial teams to translate customer requirements into mathematical models
- Conduct research and propose underlying structures for optimization models needed to deliver customer value (e.g. MILP, NP)
- Conduct secondary research on optimization solve time, efficiency and scalability
- Work with external contractors to expand Verse’s industry knowledge and maintain relevant data repositories.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Passion for clean energy and mitigating climate change!
- Masters degree in a quantitative field (e.g. systems engineering, operations research, computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience)
- Experience with mathematical optimization (e.g. linear optimization, MILP, stochastic optimization, convex optimization)
- 5 years of experience as an optimization engineer, systems engineer or software engineer
- Experience with commercial grade optimization solvers (e.g. Gurobi, CPLEX, Mosel)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the electricity industry
- PhD degree in a quantitative field (e.g. systems engineering, operations research, computer science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience)
- Advanced skills in computer programing including Python
- Ability to work in technical environments
- Ability to work in close collaboration with product teams to define and explore product opportunities
- Track record of developing production grade system optimization code
- Excellent problem-solving skills, communication, and collaboration skills
