What You Will Do
Engineering Services (ES) Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security missions. This position is within the ES Division and is assigned to the Institutional Project Delivery (IPD) Group. The Institutional Pressure Safety Support team in ES-IPD is responsible for implementing the Pressure Safety Program at LANL. This position supports nuclear, accelerator, and non-nuclear facilities and programs across 38 square miles of the Laboratory.
This position will be filled at either the Nuclear Facilities Engineer 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Pressure Safety Engineer 3 ($119,200 - $201,100)
The selected candidate will serve as a Subject Matter Expert for the Pressure Safety Program and will be responsible for aiding fellow laboratory personnel with implementing the Pressure Safety requirements from 10CFR851, Worker Safety and Health Program.
You will be responsible for ensuring pressurized piping systems are designed to be safe for workers throughout their entire lifecycle - from design to decommissioning. You will need to have strong knowledge of principles, theories, and concepts associated with pressure systems and over pressure protection. Additionally, you will be expected to serve as a mentor to junior pressure safety personnel around LANL.
Pressure Safety Engineer 4 ($143,100 - $248,200)
In addition to the duties described above, at Level 4 you will be expected to contribute to improvement of LANL's Engineering Standards, facilitate technical growth of the Pressure Safety Program, make visionary organizational contributions to improve pressure safety, assist the Team Lead with work planning, staffing projects, and hiring.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Technical experience in design engineering with expertise in pressure systems
- Ability to define objectives of assignments and determine the approach, methods, and procedures needed to achieve the desired goal
- Ability to interpret and apply codes, standards, laws, and regulations related to boiler, pressure vessel, and piping system safety
- Analyze, summarize and/or review data; reports findings; interprets results and makes recommendations
- Ability to understand engineering systems and perform calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to conventional and non-conventional facility and operations-based engineering problems
- Thorough knowledge of overpressure protection evaluations and sizing of pressure relief devices
- Ability to coach and mentor junior pressure safety personnel
- Experience with pressure system codes and standards such as:
- ASME B31.3 or ASME B31.9
- ASME B&PVC Section VIII, Div. 1
- ASME B&PVC Section XIII
Additional Job Requirements for Pressure Safety Engineer 4:

- Experience leading a team and/or organization
- Broad knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria related to pressure safety

- Familiarity with the pressure safety requirements of 10CFR851, DOE Directives, and industry codes and standards invoked as referenced by such Directives. Examples include DOE Order 420.1C Facility Safety, ASME B&PVC and B31 series piping codes, NBIC, and applicable NFPA Codes and Standards
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a hybrid-remote environment
