Responsibilities


The Oncology Patient Educator is an RN with advanced education, knowledge and experience related to thespecific patient population served. Serves as a leader in the interdisciplinary planning and coordination of thepatient’s care across the healthcare continuum. The RN is accountable for his/her own professionaldevelopment and practice within the scope of care defined by law. Organizes the sequences of patient care toattain maximum levels of effectiveness and efficiency to reach desired quality, clinical and cost outcomes.Facilitates a team approach, composed of the patient, family, physician, nurse, social service, and other directand indirect providers. Interacts with the general public, physicians, and staff. Other duties as assigned.
The delivery of nursing care within the Kettering Health Network reflects the missions, vision, values andphilosophies, of the organization and nursing departments.
RN Navigators are employees of the Oncology Service Line and report to the manager of Cancer SupportServices and the operational director.


Qualifications


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education
Bachelor of Science in nursing is required. MS in nursing is preferred.

Required Licenses

[Ohio, United States] Registered Nurse
Licensed in the state of Ohio as a Registered Nurse

Minimum Work Experience
Minimum five (5) years clinical experience required. Recent oncology experience required.

Required Skills
  • Certification in general oncology nursing (OCN®) from the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation(ONCC), required within 1 year of employment. The AOCN®, AOCNS®, and AOCNP® credentials are alsoacceptable in lieu of an OCN®.
  • BLS certification
  • Professional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Computer skills, including email, internet, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Experience in coordinating a business meeting and/or an interdisciplinary patient care conference.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and/or teaching experience.
  • Up-to-date cancer knowledge and participation in professional oncology nursing organizations
  • Knowledge of standards and guidelines from relevant national organizations and regulatory agencies to allaspects of care (i.e. HFAP, Ohio Board of Nursing, OSHA, FDA, Oncology Nursing Society, Commission onCancer, National Comprehensive Cancer Network, ASCO, etc.)
