Airgas Specialty Products, Inc., a subsidiary of Airgas Inc. is the nation’s leading distributor of industrial, medical, specialty gasses and welding supplies. We are currently searching for a Regional Operations Manager for our North Region. The office is located in Riverdale, IL.

Manage the overall operation (current $100MM book of business) of 7 or more facilities that distribute anhydrous and aqueous ammonia (hazardous chemicals). Responsible for safety, regulatory compliance, distribution operations, maintenance, and financial performance/capital expenditures within the region. Salary is based off of experience with a bonus eligibility of up to 20% of annual pay.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages all ASP Regional Operations personnel in accordance with company policies and ASP HR direction by hiring, training, motivating, planning, and directing work, managing performance and resolving associate issues so that assigned performance targets are met or exceeded.
  • Works with ASP Safety personnel to drive a safe culture and coordinate the procedures required for federal compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOT, and state agencies, particularly Process Safety Management (PSM/OSHA), Risk Management Programs (RMP/EPA), and 49 CFRs (Code of Federal Regulations).
  • Works with ASP Leadership Team to develop operating and capital budgets and coordinates capital expenditures once proper approvals have been received.
  • Supports ASP Leadership Team with regional project management including customer projects and new ASP site construction.
  • Works with ASP Finance personnel to model, analyze, and drive positive operational KPI and/or predictive performance indicators.
  • Works with ASP Procurement personnel to manage supply chain options and compliance with appropriate profitability/logistics models.
  • Develops, implements, and revises, as needed, standard operational practices and/or procedures.
  • Champions the development, implementation, and completion of efficiency projects to drive company sustainability and profitability.
  • Provides technical and operational support to the sales force as needed. Frequent communication with Account Managers, hosts customer visits to branches, and visits customer locations with Account Managers as needed.
  • Interact with other Airgas group companies as needed to ensure consistent supply of products sourced from ASP.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Engineering or equivalent technical Degree (B.S.)
  • 8 to 10 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the following areas:

Working with hazardous chemicals and/or compressed gasses
Distribution Facility and Logistics Management
Engineering and Safety & Compliance
Compliance with federal/state regulations regarding handling and shipping of hazardous chemicals, particularly OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Knowledge of CGA G-2.1 a plus.
Employee Training and Development
P&L Management with strong aptitude for and understanding of intermediate business and financial principles
Inventory Management - both hard goods and compressed gasses
Google Email/Suite applications; Sheets, Docs, Slides, etc…
SAP experience is a plus

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Travel of 25-30% will typically be required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work environment is a chemical processing plant handling non-flammable compressed gasses and corrosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and personal protective equipment is required in the processing distribution areas.
