POSITION OVERVIEW:

Quality Engineers on the EmPower team are responsible for testing the integration of a wide variety of smart home devices within Alarm.com's ecosystem. This position has a strong focus on the functional testing of end-to-end systems, providing an excellent opportunity to engage with the full depth of our products, by working with software, firmware, and hardware.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Understanding the functionality and system architecture of the product under test.
• Writing test plans and updating test documentation.
• Manually testing features/products, tracking defects, and following them through to resolution.
• Writing high quality bugs tickets.
• Analyzing logs and data to identify the root cause of issues.
• Setting up and maintaining test environments and equipment.
• Triaging urgent issues, prioritizing accordingly, and proposing resolutions.
• Configuring, maintaining, and monitoring automation setups.
• Assessing risk and determining subsequent test strategy.
• Interacting with various stakeholders and other engineering teams to ensure the highest level of quality for the product under test.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology – degrees from other disciplines will be considered in conjunction with relevant professional experience.
• Excellent problem solving, troubleshooting, and time management skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently, raise issues and take corrective action.
• Ability to work in across hardware, software, and network technologies.
• Ability to interpret complex technical information.
• Process-oriented with ability to pay close attention to details.
• Exceptional communication skills.
• Self-motivated with strong technical background, and a deep interest in product quality.
• Ability to make decisions based on test results to advise management and customers.
• Team focused, with a proven track record of thriving in a collaborative environment.
• Some experience with a scripting language (e.g. Python).
• Some experience with SQL.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• 1-2 years of QA experience in a fast-paced, agile environment.
• Experience with hardware and software testing.
• Proficient in estimating testing schedules and optimizing test plans.
