Postdocs in Theoretical/Computational Plasma Physics Job at Los Alamos National Laboratory
What You Will Do
The Plasma Physics Team of the T-5 Applied Mathematics and Plasma Physics Group in Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking candidates for postdoctoral appointments in theoretical and computational plasma physics. A broad range of research projects in physics and computation are available in tokamak disruption mitigation and fusion reactor power exhaust handling, and they target MHD stability and magnetic reconnection, particle and energy transport, atomic physics processes and radiation, runaway electron dynamics, boundary plasma physics, and plasma-material interaction. A complimentary research focus is on scientific machine learning, with applications to fusion energy sciences and the enabling advanced numerical simulation methods. Although our research is theoretical and computational, close interaction with domestic and international experiments is anticipated. The initial appointment is for two years, with a possible third year extension depending on performance and funding availability.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: PhD in a related field completed within the past five years or soon to be completed.
Work Environment:
Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.
Note to Applicants: In addition to applying online, please send a cover letter and CV (including the contact information of three references) to Xianzhu Tang at xtang@lanl.gov.
Candidates may be also nominated for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Marie Curie, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships. Applicants with US citizenship will also be considered for the Metropolis Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Physics. For the named fellowship, the research scope can be broadened to include any topic of mutual interest, for example, in inertial confinement fusion, laser-plasma interaction, space and astrophysical plasmas, and computational methods.
