Job Summary

The Part Time Community Engagement Coordinator performs a critical role in maintaining visitor, membership, and volunteer services; leading promotional and marketing efforts; and assisting in the development and implementation of public programming for the Manatee County Agricultural Museum division of the Historical Resources Department while providing outstanding internal and external customer service. The Community Engagement Coordinator position is a part-time, non-supervisory position reporting to the Supervisor of the Manatee County Agricultural Museum. This position reports directly to the Supervisor I/Agricultural Museum. This position reports indirectly to the Director of Historical Resources and Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, History, Community Engagement, or related field
  • One year of recent and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of data, preferably in an automated systems environment
  • One year of recent and relevant experience in events planning and/or events management
  • Basic mathematical aptitude, as well as alpha and numeric filing skills required
  • Ability to write concisely with clarity and proper grammar
  • Proficient in graphic design and promotional photography
  • Working knowledge of current non-profit marketing principles and proficient in use of social media and website design/maintenance
  • Computer literacy which includes, but is not limited to, proficiency in Microsoft Windows Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Familiar with Past Perfect or related museum/archival or data management software
  • Some experience working in a museum or historical site
  • Must be able to operate general office equipment
  • Must be punctual; regular attendance is required
  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work as part of a team and foster a positive work environment
  • Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license

Essential Functions

  • Provides excellent customer service to all in person, in email, and over the phone; is approachable, helpful, and personable; answers questions knowledgeably and with patience
  • Attends to all aspects of visitor experience, greets guests upon initial entry, provide directions, process gift shop sales, etc. including tours when necessary
  • Enters and organizes membership, volunteer and contribution data utilizing Past Perfect. Manage museum memberships.
  • Markets and promotes the Ag Museum and its activities through social media, newsletter, press releases, flyers, website design and maintenance, etc.
  • Seeks outreach opportunities and coordinates participation, including being on site when needed
  • Works with other staff to develop and implement all public programming for the Ag Museum, including special events, exhibit openings, outreach events, educational programs, and workshops/lectures
  • Assists with all operations of Ag Museum, including mail and email communications, housekeeping, and emergency preparedness
  • Assists with all aspects of education programming, special events, and museum tours
  • Assists with all aspects of volunteer recruitment and management
  • Performs general office duties.
    • Gains knowledge of the rules and regulations pertaining to the activities of the assigned nonprofit
    • Learns County and local Florida historical facts and folklore
    • Proofreads and edits materials
    • Answers telephone and in-person inquiries about the historic site and its activities and programs
  • Assists management with other related duties as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary by the Clerk, Director or Supervisor for the operation of the museum and continuation of service and assistance to the nonprofit.
  • Regular and reliable attendance, including weekends and occasional evenings
