PARISH BUSINESS MANAGER
The Parish of St. Monica, Atlantic City

SUMMARY
The Business Manager serves in a key management position, and together with the Pastor and school Principal forms the core leadership team of the parish. The Business Manager has the technical expertise to ensure that the temporal and administrative facets of the parish are sustained in a framework of shared Catholic values and directed towards support of the parish’s pastoral mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES
Financial Responsibilities
  • Maintains accuracy of all financial files and records and establishes a responsible cash flow management and record-keeping system.
  • Prepares, administers and reviews budget processes in collaboration with the Pastor, Finance Committee, Lay Trustees, Principal, and the Diocesan Finance Office.
  • Monitors the collection, counting, recording and depositing of parish revenue from all sources, managing staff and volunteer teams.
  • Produces payroll for the parish and school.
  • Serves as a helpful resource to parish organizations in all financial matters from planning to auditing.
  • Acts as a liaison between the parish and the Diocese in all financial matters.
  • Utilizes the ParishSoft and ConnectNow Accounting systems to account for all financial activity.
  • Produces financial reports for the parish Finance Council and the Pastor, regularly and as needed.
  • Monitors spending and assists the pastor and fellow employees in observing the parish and school budgets.
  • Assists the pastor in planning, implementing and/or coordinating all financial stewardship efforts, including best practices for increased giving, online giving, visitor engagement, fundraising, advancement, and the bishop’s annual appeal.
  • Directly supervises the parish & school Bookkeepers, volunteer collection counters, and fundraising staff and volunteers. Works closely with the Facilities Manager.
Human Resources and Administrative Responsibilities
  • Assists the pastor with employment advertisement, selection and hiring of new staff members, and training of direct reports.
  • Maintains employee files and organizes regular reviews in conjunction with each employee’s direct supervisor and the pastor.
  • Ensures smooth operation of the parish office. Schedules, supervises and evaluates office staff & volunteers.
  • Oversees purchasing of office supplies.
  • Attends staff meetings, as well as occasionally attending other meetings and events as directed, sometimes in the evening.
  • Administers parish salary and benefit policies as directed by the Pastor and in accordance with civil employment laws and diocesan & parish policies.
  • Oversees the maintenance of the IT system including copiers and oversees website and social media infrastructure.
  • Coordinates parish liability and property insurance, workers’ compensation, and diocesan DSIP program.
  • Consults with and advises Pastor and Principal on business and administrative matters that affect the parish and school. Directly supervises employee & volunteer parish Receptionists.
Ministerial Responsibilities
  • Knows and understands the culture & mission of the Catholic Church and applies Catholic teachings to all areas of responsibility.
  • Occasionally participates in parish & diocesan faith formation activities as directed.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all areas of responsibility as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Minimum five-year’s experience in financial analysis or accounting preferred.
  • Parish and School Accounting experience a plus.
  • Strong writing and interpersonal skills – bilingual English-Spanish a plus.
  • Ability to function independently and professionally with staff and volunteers at all levels
  • Computer literacy with strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Knowledge of ParishSoft and ConnectNow Accounting a plus.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Supervision experience preferred.
