Water Operator I, II or In-Training

We are hiring a Full Time, Permanent position in EPCOR’s Mohave district.

This individual will work in both our Parker and Lake Havasu City service areas. Will perform plant operations duties including checking, troubleshooting and improving water and wastewater production facilities, process control, maintaining equipment, chemical handling, as well as system sampling and lab work to ensure treated water meets County, State and EPA quality standards. Conducts various tests to determine proper chemical feed rates, calculates chemical feed rates and changes pump settings as needed. Monitors and operates telemetry systems, and completes maintenance and operations records.

What you’d be responsible for

Receive job assignments through work orders and verbal instructions from Operations Foreman or Operations Supervisor, and is expected with limited supervision, to carry projects through to completion. Participates by a method of hands on work, prioritizes work and decides what equipment and materials are needed to accomplish assignments. Must be able to read and interprets water facility plans and lab data.

What’s required to be successful

Must have knowledge of all aspects of water and wastewater treatment operations. Must have working knowledge of wastewater collection and water distribution systems. Knowledge of safety practices in the operation of electrical and mechanical equipment used in water and wastewater facilities. Ability to perform accurate arithmetic computations. Be able to follow safe work methods and safety precautions in process control, laboratory procedures, operation of electrical and mechanical equipment used in water facilities. Must have considerable knowledge of procedures, materials, tools, equipment and safety hazards and precautions common to assigned area of responsibility. Must have experience in the use of computer spreadsheet programs and data collection software.

Ability to use both hand and power tools. Able to work rotating schedule, nights, and weekends. Skills in contract\project management. Ability to perform standardized water and/or sewage quality tests; familiarity with drinking water rules and regulations. Ability to read and interpret meters, charts, gauges and recording devices. Ability to determine equipment, tools, manpower and materials necessary to complete assigned projects. May be required to move heavy objects. Able to continually lift, bend, climb stairs and work with mechanical hand tools.

All candidates must have High School diploma or equivalent.

Operator I - Starts at $25.88 per hour. Must have ADEQ Grade 1 certifications in: Water Distribution and Water Treatment.

Operator II - Starts at $28.36 per hour. Must have ADEQ Grade 2 certifications in Water Distribution and Water Treatment.

Operator-in-Training - starts at $21.05 per hour. Must strive for ADEQ Grade 1 certifications in: Water Distribution and Water Treatment within first year.

Other important facts about this job

Must be able to be at work every day and on time, and able to work rotating schedule. Individuals filling this position must operate Company owned vehicles in a safe manner, and have a valid Arizona driver’s license with good driving record. An Arizona Class A driver’s license with hazardous materials endorsement is preferred.

This position is subject to call back, overtime and week-end/holiday emergency call-outs and on-call duty. Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage. Must be able to tolerate extreme heat.
