The Operations Specialist is responsible for assisting the VP of Operations in the sound operations of the Credit Union. This position will develop and maintain reliable accounting information and reporting on income, expenses, assets, and liabilities, as it relates to the fulfillment of operations and financial reporting. Additionally, this position will ensure effective and efficient financial soundness, smooth operations, quality member service, and compliance with regulations and policies, and will have direct responsibility for data entry, account reconciliation, and reporting of operations functions.
Vanderbilt University Credit Union (VUCU) is a not-for-profit cooperative organization established in 1959 to promote saving, provide financial services and serve as a source of credit at a reasonable rate of interest. VUCU is member-owned, member-operated and democratically governed. Membership is open to all full-time and regular part-time Vanderbilt University employees; family members and all employees of Vanderbilt affiliated organizations.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operations (70%)
    • Support the daily operations of the Credit Union.
      • Process VUMC payroll
      • Make pay/return and charge/waive decisions on share draft and ACH report.
      • Confirm and reconcile wires, rapid cash, and ACH transactions.
      • Complete daily upload of Courtesy Pay files.
    • Perform daily reports as assigned by their Supervisor.
      • Reconcile the GL and VCU bank accounts.
      • Reconcile teller checks.
      • Reconcile daily, monthly, and quarterly GLs.
      • Research and resolve ATM and Debit Card Disputes.
      • Monitor and coordinate the resolution of overdrawn share draft accounts.
      • Process OFAC.
      • Charge-off Debit Card and overdrawn deposit accounts.
    • Resolve deposit and financial issues as they are escalated to you.
    • Perform projects as assigned by their Supervisor
  • Member Service (20%)
    • Provide back-up support to the teller line or Member Service functions as the Credit Union staffing needs arise.
    • Answer phone calls as needed.
  • Administrative (10%)
    • File items as needed.
    • Provide back-up to the Vice President of Operations function.

Qualifications

  • High School degree required
  • 3+ years experience in the financial services industry
  • History of familiarity with financial terms and practices
  • Ability to gather member data from a variety of sources
  • Must possess excellent bookkeeping skills and the ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with co-workers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leadership
  • Strong organizational skills
  • The ability to work well with computer applications.
