Nursing Laboratory Assistant Job at Iona University

The nursing laboratory assistant provides support for the nursing skills laboratories & simulation activities. This position reports to the Director of Nursing Laboratories and Simulation Learning is responsible for assisting in the preparation of the laboratories and simulation suites for learning activities to provide the highest quality education.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in packing, unpacking, storage, and maintenance of lab supplies and equipment.
  • Provides routine maintenance of all manikins and equipment.
  • Prepares labs for laboratory skills and simulation for all programs to support the curriculum.
  • Assists Director of Laboratories &Simulation Learning, Nursing Skills & Simulation Manager, and lab faculty with setting up/taking down labs for student experiences.
  • Assists with running AV/Technology in the laboratories and simulation rooms under the direction of the Director of Laboratories & Simulation Learning.
  • Promotes safe practices.
  • Supports laboratory maintenance, safety, and handling of hazardous wastes.
  • Maintains security of simulation environment, equipment and technology, installs hardware equipment and software programs, cleans equipment, troubleshoots equipment failure, and places Iona work orders.
  • Assists Director of Laboratories & Simulation Learning and Nursing Skills & Simulation Manager in keeping inventory of supplies and equipment, organizing, ordering, and restocking based on lab and simulation needs.
  • Assists with tours and events of laboratories and represents Iona University and Department of Nursing in a professional manner.
  • Maintains confidentiality of work-related information.
  • Performs other duties as directed by the Director and Associate Director of Laboratories and Simulation Learning.


Qualifications:

  • LPN required, RN preferred.
  • Current unencumbered New York State LPN or RN license.
  • Position requires the ability to lift and transfer 50 pounds.
  • Attention to detail is required in the performance of duties.
  • Experience in higher education, laboratories, and simulation preferred.
  • Proficient in the use of technology and ability to quickly learn software platforms required.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • A demonstrated understanding of and commitment to diversity that contributes to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Ability to accommodate flexible working hours.
