Position Summary:
Nursing staff will be responsible for assisting the Provider on Duty. The Med Tech performs routine administrative and clinical tasks to assist with keeping the urgent care running smoothly. The Med Tech verifies patient information, records medical history, confirms the purpose of the patient visit and performs any ordered procedures or labs.

Hours: Monday - Saturday: 7:30am - 8:00pm and Sundays 11:30am - 8:00pm

  • Full-time is 3 shifts per week
  • PRN is minimum 2 shifts per month
  • Schedules made 4-6 weeks in advance
  • Shifts are made by area managers who work with our scheduler to ensure clinics have coverage
  • Ability to consult w/ manager about shifts, but we do require flexibility
  • Regarding full-time: Must be available to work rotating weekends (can include Saturday and Sunday)
  • 1 on-call shift per month - must answer a call within 30 mins between hours of 6:00am-3:00pm that day – $50 stipend will be provided for travel

Estimated Starting Pay / Benefits: Depends on experience, education, and credentials.

  • MA/EMT/LVN - $16-26/hr - Depends on experience/education/credential
  • MA/EMT-Bs - approximately $16-20ish/hr
  • Paramedics/LVNs - Approximately $20-26/hr
  • 90-day performance reviews - potential for merit increase
  • We facilitate employees getting DOT and BAT certifications in first 30 days
  • We also offer periodic BLS, Splinting, and IV classes
  • Tier System for levels 1-4 to provide a line for advancement
  • Benefits for FT only: Health (BCBS), Dental (Principal), Vision, PTO, up to 4 free clinic visits each year

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Active TMB (Texas Medical Board) registration and in good standing - for nursing staff
  • Preferred two (2) years of Medical Technician Experience (MA, LVN, EMT, etc) to include duties such as: Triaging, rooming patients, verifying reason for visit, recording vitals, etc
  • Venipuncture and drawing for labs, Injections, Ability to start/stop IVs, etc
  • DOT Physicals, Drug screens, BAT testing, assisting with splints/sutures or other wound care
  • Perform EKGs, swabs for various POC testing (flu/strep/COVID)
  • Current BLS Certification - must be obtained within 30 days of hire
  • DOT Drug/BAT certification within 30 days of start date - CommunityMed can assist with this
  • It is the sole responsibility of the medical technician to maintain any and all certifications and registrations necessary as outlined by your licenses. Failure to do so may result in termination as these are necessary for employment with CMUCS.

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive to shift on time – 7:30am Monday – Saturday; 11:30am Sunday, unless otherwise noted.
  • Responsible for stocking and preparing clinic rooms at the start and end of each day
  • Screen and triage calls; take messages and/or directs calls to the appropriate individual or department.
  • Completes patient call-backs.
  • Room and triage patient; and chart clinical procedures such as vital signs.
  • Perform ordered patient treatments within set certification and medical competencies.
  • Undertake the complete collection and processing for lab specimens.
  • Review and record lab results, calling patients with results when necessary.
  • Perform occupational medicine testing.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Able to perform front office duties, once cross-trained.
  • Be able to identify any facility or clinic issues and place a help desk ticket.
  • Ensure every Tuesday, Occupational Med supplies are ordered and submitted for approval.
  • Assist with special projects as directed.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and all other applicable federal and state mandates.
  • Contact Medical Technician Manager in an event of an emergency call-in.
  • Contact Medical Technician Manager with any issues, questions, etc. pertaining to the clinic or your shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Skills and Knowledge:

  • Evenings, weekends, and holidays shifts are regularly 12 hours on all days except Sunday which is an 8-hour shift.
  • Strong organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to be patient, possess compassion, and uphold patient confidentiality is a must.

  • Self-motivated; ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with physicians, management, all staff members and patients.
  • Compliance with the attendance policy.
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes.
  • Must be able to work with and enter accurate information into such software as MS Word and Excel.
