Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for applying subject matter knowledge to solve complex business issues within established guidelines and recommending appropriate alternatives in the following areas: design plastic injection molded parts and sheet metal parts; use rapid prototyping technologies, including the latest in multi-jet fusion technology, in the development and validation of designs prior to create high-volume tooling; evaluate product performance and reliability using lab and field data. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design portions of engineering solutions for mechanical and thermal hardware, electronics enclosures, and production tooling based on established engineering principles and in accordance with development technology practices and guidelines
- Develop and implement parameters and test plans for existing designs, including validation of tolerances, form/fit/function, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference, safety, reliability, developing fan curves, system power measurements, and acoustics
- Collaborate and communicate with internal and outsourced development partners on mechanical and thermal design and development
- Participate as a member of client project team of other mechanical hardware engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to develop reliable, cost effective, and high-quality solutions
- Perform other duties as needed
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Advanced degree preferred
- 8+ years of experience in a mechanical design role
- Experience using Creo Elements/Direct Modeling preferred
- Experience with 2D drafting and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience designing sheet metal and plastic parts and associated production tooling and processes
Qualifications:
- Ability to come up with innovative solutions to solve real customer problems
- Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems and exposure to multiple manufacturing disciplines and principles
- Proven history in the design of complex 3D mechanical assemblies (3D solid modeling and 2D detailing/drafting)
- Extensive exposure to design, development, test, and delivery of complex hardware systems
- Ability to meet the eligibility requirements for working in the US without RLA sponsorship for employment visa status
- Strong computer skills that include proficiency with MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio), Teams and SharePoint
Language Skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel; reach with hand and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- At times, may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the duties of the position.
