Job Description

Duties:

• Perform grounds maintenance and landscaping operations such as mowing, trimming, raking, mulching, blowing, digging, weeding, trimming and pruning, splitting and stacking firewood, hauling brush, etc....
• Perform building maintenance operations such as painting, glazing windows, light carpentry, and other tasks as required.
• Perform cleaning and housekeeping operations such cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms and kitchens; dusting; sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping floors; washing windows; making beds, etc...
• Assist with recycling, bailing dinghies, moving furniture and appliances, and more.

Qualifications:

Although certainly helpful, no prior experience is necessary - just the ability and willingness to learn multiple tasks, continually striving to improve performance. This requires effective communication skills, including active listening, retaining information, and the ability to follow directions.

Knowledge of plants and the ability to discriminate among different plants when weeding would be helpful. Similarly, we appreciate the ability to observe and pay attention to details and sort things (from lumber to laundry) into different categories appropriately.

You will be expected to work as part of a team, but also to work independently. We want you to follow our directions, but we also want you to take initiative, speak up when you see other things that could be done, etc... It is necessary to be honest and hard-working, display integrity, and treat everyone with courtesy and respect. We need you to care about the details as well as following-through and following-up; get the job done right rather than just getting it done. Having patience, a sense of humor, and a good attitude is highly valued.

The position does not generally require interaction with guests, but a good customer service orientation is none-the-less important, including presenting a clean, professional appearance.

This is a physical, labor-intensive job that requires:

• working outside in potentially all weather;
• typically standing and walking all day long;
• at times lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds or more;
• strength, agility, and dexterity to operate machinery and manipulate tools to accomplish tasks;
• the ability to work with cleaning agents, paints, fuel, and other chemical substances;
• wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.

In addition, you will need to:

• know, understand and follow all safety guidelines, policies, procedures and expectations, and take immediate and appropriate action to rectify any unsafe conditions.
• demonstrate environmental awareness, understand the environmental impacts of all activities, and take steps to mitigate negative impacts.

You must be at least 16 years of age, 18 or older preferred.
