The Cisco Talos Security Intelligence and Research Group detects and correlates threats in real-time using the world’s largest threat detection network, protecting against known and emerging cybersecurity threats to better protect the Internet.

Talos is seeking a puzzle-loving security researcher to join our growing team as a Machine Learning Engineer. If you have a passion to stop bad guys and love working with machine-learning models and large datasets, then this is your place.

What You’ll Do

• You’ll get to analyze large datasets to extract complex data patterns. You’ll get to monitor changes in the threat landscape via automation and visualization techniques.
• You’ll get to develop unsupervised and supervised models to identify new threats. You will also get to create or improve data and machine-learning pipelines to support Cisco’s security products and tools.
• You’ll get to research new detection and prevention strategies considering the trends and the evolution of the threat landscape.
• You will be in contact with many different products and domains across Cisco’s security product portfolio including malware detection, URL and email classification.
• You will keep yourself abreast of the latest research in security and machine learning and you will regularly present new techniques to the rest of the team.
• You will publish internal and external reports, papers and blog posts detailing your research findings.

Who You Are - Required Skills

• Undergraduate or postgraduate in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Extensively experienced in data science and are well versed in Machine Learning and Statistical Modeling. You are familiar with supervised and unsupervised state-of-the-art algorithms and machine-learning frameworks.
• Passionate about cybersecurity and have a solid background in this domain.
• You can proactively analyze potential detection gaps, propose projects and ideas, and define and execute a plan to make them real.
• Capable of working with large, real-world datasets that require pre-processing, data visualization, and a great dose of analytical skills.
• You have firm software development skills with Python, Git and Docker.
• Comfortable with relational and NoSQL databases/datastores such as Elasticsearch.
• Experienced working on a Linux-like environment, AWS, and Databricks.
• Familiar with the threat landscape and threat intelligence concepts.
• Willing to learn new skills, eager to stay up to date, and to work with other domain experts outside of your comfort zone.
• You enjoy working in a collaborative environment as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, providing domain expertise when needed, sharing ideas and knowledge.
