Job Summary

We are seeking a vibrant, creative thinker to join our Life Enrichment team! This person leads by example and accepts nothing short of premier in providing the highest quality of life for our residents. Must have a passion for working with seniors and the ability to inspire others to be engaged in the life of their community. The main role of this person is to lead activities for residents and join the team in providing support in our community and across the campus.

Major Responsibilities

The Life Enrichment Assistant will:
Plan, coordinate and implement individual, group and one-to-one recreational activities based on the identified needs, interests and personal preference of each resident.
Assist in planning and implementing programs and events.
Provide one-to-one visitation with residents.
Ensure that documentation adheres to best practices and regulations.
Follow the Best Friends™ Philosophy of person-centered care and orientation to activities with residents with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia.
Attend all general Life Enrichment meetings and group planning sessions.
With supervision, monitor and document resident's levels of participation and progress in recreational programs, small groups and one-to-one interactions.
Report any medical, social, or behavioral change in residents' condition to nursing staff
Maintain and support a strong volunteer program.
Participate in various committees or meetings related to clinical, quality, customer and employee opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

A high school diploma

Knowledge and Critical Skills / Expertise

Experience working with adult populations.
Demonstrates effective decision-making skills.
Demonstrates a positive, self-confident attitude in concert with HCK's mission, vision, qualities, and culture.
Demonstrates effective communication skills.
Knowledge of health care and medical issues affecting the elderly population.
General awareness of wellness and fitness programming.
General knowledge of federal and/or state regulations related to practice setting.
Able to respond effectively in emergency situations and in accordance to the facility's emergency/disaster plan.
Comfort in facilitating and/or leading one-to-one interactions, small and large group activities.
Able to be self-directed in carrying out recreational programs and services.
Direct experience working with adult populations, geriatric clientele preferred.
General knowledge of dementia related diseases, chronic health problems and other medical issues affecting the elderly.

Essential Physical Functions

This position is physically demanding and includes actively leading and physically participating in many wellness activities.
These activities may involve walking, running, stooping kneeling and the use of free weights and physical fitness equipment
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday in office areas, as well as throughout
Must be able to speak, read and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to cope with the behavioral, physical, cognitive and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. push, pull and reach.

Experience

1-2 years of experience in activities and/or recreational programs desired.
