The Bariatric Coordinator reports to the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program Director. Responsible for assessing and reassessing patients, maintaining accurate patient records including filing of reports in designated areas, scheduling of appropriate tests when indicated, responding to patient phone calls, speaking with pharmacies when indicated under the supervision of the provider, speaking with insurance companies as indicated.


Some evening hours and travel between facilities required.


Education:


  • Graduate of a high school or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited LPN School of Nursing Program required.

Certifications/Experience:


  • Current Indiana License required.
  • Current CPR Certification preferred, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical experience preferred.

General Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates on an ongoing basis with the Program Director and other team members, promoting positive communication techniques and the ability to problem solve at entry level.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care, evaluates interventions and consults with providers as necessary to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Perform triage of patients per protocols established by the physician and/or organization.
  • Prepare patient for provider and assist provider with patient examination, procedures and other processes.
  • Provide patient education or coordinates the provision of patient educational activities. Assist with weight loss seminars as indicated.
  • Collect patient health information which is communicated written and verbally to appropriate health professionals in order to identify actual and potential problems.
  • Arrange consults, tests, and procedures and verify orders for patients.
  • Demonstrate an ability of safe medication and treatment administration.
  • Correctly identify patients accepting responsibility for individual actions including activities that may be considered fraudulent, illegal or inappropriate.
  • Adhere to organization’s laboratory quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
  • Deliver care in a nonjudgmental, nondiscriminatory, and ethical manner which preserves and protects the patient autonomy, confidentiality, dignity and rights.

  • Team Member is accountable for areas of responsibility meeting regulatory requirements including but not limited to maintaining annual TB testing, completing annual mandatories (ALC and competency), and maintaining current registration/certification/licensures as appropriate to position requirements.

Duties

  • Verification / coordination of insurance benefits

  • Seminar rotation

  • Call rotation

  • FMLA / intermittent FMLA

  • Prior auth tracking for surgeries / endo

  • Prior auth for weight loss medications

  • Sending medication orders / refills (as per physicians order)

  • Coordinating insurance peer to peer calls with physicians

  • Assisting with program protocol outgoing referral tracking as needed

  • Program protocol EGD / Sleep study / lab, obtaining orders & tracking results

  • Assist with screening surgery consult requests to assess if they meet eligibility requirements

    • If not, directing them to medical (nonsurgical) pathway

  • Assisting with program & pre op education as needed for clinic day workflow

  • Monthly weight checks on all post op patients for 1 year

  • Assisting with phone / email patient correspondence as needed

    • Clinical / program questions that cannot be answered by the CSR

    • Certified letters sent to post op patients non compliant with follow up care

  • Requesting medical records

  • Assisting with incoming referrals and consult requests as needed
