The Senior Librarian oversees a small staff, providing a range of programming and services for all ages. The Senior Librarian will provide programming, including weekly story times, for all ages. The selected candidate will be an upbeat, resourceful, and empathetic manager skilled in customer relations.
Essential Duties:
- Inspires and motivates branch staff in implementing New Hanover County Library mission, values and strategic objectives
- Maximizes staff potential through delegation, recognition, teambuilding and training
- Oversees a library facility to include management of IT, security, and building maintenance
- Contributes to the development of system policies and procedures as a member of NHCPL’s management team
- Collaborates with volunteers, Friends of the Library, and community partners to promote and support library resources and programs
- Cultivates a current and appealing branch collection in a variety of formats for all ages
- Contributes to system level collection selection and development in assigned areas
- Develops and presents programming for all ages, including a weekly story time
The successful candidate must be :
- Dedicated to equitable access for all citizens to resources that support education, health, self-sufficiency, and personal well-being
- Committed to the values stated in the American Library Association Bill of Rights and Code of Ethics
- Skilled in verbal and written communications
- A collaborator who relates easily to coworkers, supervisors, and the public
Generally Monday through Friday 8 am – 5pm; evenings and weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) as needed; must be available during emergency situations.

Salary Information:
The hiring range for this position is $59,168.00 to $79,877.00. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

- Master’s in Library Science from an accredited institution of Library Science and three (3) years of librarian experience
- Supervisory experience
- Public library work experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish
Physical activities and demands
Communicates and exchanges information and ideas with customers and coworkers throughout the workday- Occasionally moves and positions bins of books which weigh up to 30 pounds
- Frequently positions, places, and removes books and other library materials around, onto, and from shelves and bins at a wide range of heights
