Lead Background Artist Job at Floyd County Productions
The Lead Background Artist’s primary responsibility is to lead a team tasked with ensuring high quality painted backgrounds make it from background design to animation through the duration of the series. They work closely with the Background Director to understand the intention of background designs and show style. They direct the production of color keys, and guide an internal team of background painters. The Lead Background Artist may also be tasked with noting background files from overseas painters. This position reports to the Background Director
Skills Required:
- Worked in the backgrounds department for 1-2 years.
- Capable of working independently while also being a proactive problem solver for the Background staff and department as a whole.
- Able to take direction well and receive notes in a productive manner, asking appropriate questions when necessary to ensure understanding of what a shot or file needs.
- Possess an intimate understanding of the production pipeline and how the Background department works in conjunction with other departments.
- Ability to read and breakdown storyboards and 3D renders into clear, well
- organized assignments.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully to the Background Artists as well as staff and directors in other departments.
- Must be able to switch between tasks at a moments notice.
- Must be dedicated to keeping the team motivated by supporting them and fostering a positive environment.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and track the department’s progress(maintain F Track communication).
- Must be a proactive problem solver, able to create quick, constructive solutions on the fly.
Responsibilities:
- Capable of executing, at a high level, all of the skills required of a Background Artist.
- Work with Background Artists to create Color Keys of each environment in the episode.
- Provide Background Artists with notes and visuals that keep files consistent with the vision and style of the production.
- Field questions from the Background Artists, especially in the absence of the Director.
- Possess a critical eye for continuity and detail within paintings and assist Director in quality control of files.
- Help identify team members’ strengths and weaknesses in order to assign files properly and efficiently to staff .
- Keeps assets organized.
- Maintains clear communication with the Background Director, Art Direction, Environment Design, the 3D department and outside vendors.
- Assist the Director in checking and approving employee hours for payroll.
- Assist in finding new talent to fill open positions within the Background Department.
- Attend all appropriate meetings to stay current on changes and production needs.
- Attend all trainings provided to Management for managerial training and be accountable for the information provided within those trainings.
- Assist the Background Director in a variety of ways to free the Director up to tackle larger issues (how roles are divided between Lead Artist and Director will be at their discretion and will be unique to each project).
- Must reside in GA or be willing to relocate.
- Must be able to provide authorization to work in the US.
- Must be able to provide proof of COVID vaccination and boosters.
