Junior High Attendance Secretary Job at Kent ISD
- Prior experience in an office is desirable.
- Computer skills and knowledge of standard office equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and a willingness to be trained and become efficient in other computer based programs.
- Certified or willingness to become certified in basic first aid and CPR.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
- Must have desire to work with junior high school aged children and their parents/guardians.
- Is able to be self-directive in organizing and accomplishing office work priorities.
- Strong customer service and communication skills - ability to work effectively with students, staff and parents.
- Experience in an office environment preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Work collaboratively with main office and administrative staff to create a safe, welcoming, and positive environment, where all students, families, staff, and visitors experience a sense of belonging
- Monitor hourly student attendance, attendance kiosk, and parent attendance line
- Accurate coding of student absences, completion of attendance correction forms, and maintenance of logs related to student attendance
- Building lead for count day procedures
- Assist with school of choice documents and facilitation of homebound services
- Communicate with students, families, and staff related to student attendance and building attendance procedures
- Assist families with ParentVue as needed or requested
- Keep and maintain all student attendance records
- Support school administration and work collaboratively with community-partners regarding student attendance issues and the truancy process
- Administer student medications
- Keep and maintain accurate medication documents and logs
- Maintain the building copiers for staff and contact the vendor as needed for service
- Assist with maintaining bulletin boards and poster displays throughout the school
- Assist school administration with monitoring school-based social media accounts to promote positive school-community communication
- Answer routine phone inquiries, take messages, route calls, etc.
- Assist with building-wide and after school events as requested
- Assist with family, student, and staff translation needs as requested (preferred)
- Supports students in the main office
- Assists with distribution of report cards
- Responsible for many incoming calls and monitoring the doorbell system to welcome visitors into the office
- Provides excellent customer service and communication for staff, students, families, community and visitors
- Types, prepares, distributes, files records/reports, correspondence, mailings etc. related to building functions and school administration needs
- Consistent and reliable attendance
- Other duties as assigned

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Education: High School diploma or general education degree (GED). Additional education desired.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Experience working with student data management systems and other technology. Experience working in a guidance office is preferred. Some post-secondary courses preferred and coursework in typing/word processing, office procedures, and other technology is desirable. Fluent in English (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before staff. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Strong organizational skills and ability to work cooperatively with building staff required. Ability to relate to school age children, parents, and community members is required. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
