International Transportation Manager Job at Hunter Industries
About This Role:
The International Transportation Manager oversees the full cycle of international import & export shipments and ensures compliance with the organization’s guidelines and the United States Administration Export Regulations & Customs & Border patrol import compliance for Hunter Industries and its subsidiaries.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:
- Manages the transportation of international freight through the Transportation Management System (TMS). Acts as the administrator for this system and is responsible for adding and updating carriers, routing, addresses, rates, and fuel surcharges.
- Manages international transportation team members. Conducts performance management, coaching, and hiring within the team and other relevant people management activities.
- Coordinates the process and procedures for the scheduling of international transportation for pickup of shipments, from Hunter to customers, for shipments and any specialty transportation vehicles. Plans transportation operations and forecasting demand. Ensuring transportation is provided in a timely manner.
- Identifies and selects most appropriate and cost-effective transportation. Establishes emergency plans.
- Acts as liaison with Shipping & Receiving, International Logistics and other departments in refining of the schedule when necessary. Publishes a daily schedule of transportation and tracks performance based on the published schedule.
- Approves all international shipments released by customer service and routes all shipments through the TMS. Troubleshoots and resolves routing issues.
- Creates a daily shipment manifest to use for reconciling the previous day shipments against invoices, tracking number and carrier data.
- Partners with outsourced freight audit company to ensure freight bills are paid in a timely manner. Contributes and participates in carrier contract negotiations. Attends meetings and act as back-up during the absence of the manager.
- Monitors and forecasts delivery schedules and staffing needs. Analyzes current transportation operations practices to determine process and cost improvement opportunities.
- Tracks the performance of on-time delivery for each carrier, noting complains and issues. Develops and assigns each carrier with a performance rating. Uses the performance rating to rate shop and drive improvement of on-time deliveries.
- Manages international inbound from suppliers to port, freight routing and shipping. Identifies contents and alerts Receiving team. Updates international import calendar.
- Keeps up to date with pertinent foreign trade regulations and policy restrictions. Ensures any special statements required for different countries are obtained accordingly.
Education/Training Required and Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field of study, or a combination of education and equivalent work experience.
Experience Required and Preferred:
- Minimum eight years of experience in international logistics and transportation
- Minimum of three years of experience in a supervisory role.
What You Bring:
- Advance knowledge of NAFTA (National Free Trade Agreement) and other international free trade agreements with the ability to apply rules of origin based on trade regulations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with employees across the organization.
- Advanced proficiency with computers with strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a cohesive team.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally. Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.
- Written and verbal communication skills in Spanish preferred.
- Lean and Six Sigma Certifications preferred.

The salary for this opportunity ranges from $78,400 to $112,200
The Company complies with all federal/local/state regulations in regard to pay. The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Compensation offered to the successful candidate will be determined by qualifications, prior experience, other job-related factors, and geographic location.
